I am so agree with you, even if it's a painful ending it was really beautiful. And as we said, even if JYL is for sure really sad after loosing CYZ, now he is cured and he is able to deal and to control his own feelings. He is not haunted by his painful past anymore and can live with it. And now that I analyze all the course of the dramas there were so many easter eggs announcing CYZ death :'( Like in ep 20 when CYZ, JYL and his 2 subordinates were having dinner and were talking about what they will do IN THE FUTURE once the city is opium free. And to that CYZ replied: "I just want to be able to save people" And yes that what he did, until the very end... :'( so amazing I love CYZ character so much!!!
And I think if people are so upset and sad about the ending that means that the writers and director did a good job and succeeded to give us a proper story that is so beautiful that we are in terrible pain at the end!!!! If we care about the destiny of the character to the point to cry in despair if the character have a tragic end that means it's a really good and well made story!

Like they did for the main characters in the Untamed, here in Killer and Healer, CYZ and JYL relationship can be seen as 知己 (Zhi ji). This can be translate in English by "to know oneself" or "soulmate" but not necessarily in a romantic way. And it looks like in chinese, "knowing someone" (知己) is a more deep and more profound feeling than the act of loving someone. Beautiful isn't it ? =D
