Wow I think ep 31 is my favorite for so many reasons =D
- Right after CYZ woke up from his coma due to JYL shooting, he knows right away that JYL did it in order to save him. CYZ is not doubting his policeman and he is even worrying for him!
- As CYZ is worried about JYL, he asked Chu Ran to meet JYL to be sure he is ok (CYZ, I am telling you, you are the BEST man EVER!! Thinking about JYL mental state first before you own health!!! You are an angel!!)
- The moment JYL figured out that he didn’t kill CYZ like he thought he did and that CYZ is in fact still alive!!!! The hope and reliefs in his eyes, OMG!!!
- And when JYL asked Chu Ran if CYZ blames him for what he did and she said “no at all, he is just worried about you” and then after hearing thatJYL started crying!!! That was so beautiful !!!! I lost it and I almost cried too !
- And as it wasn’t enough beautiful moments already.... JYL, after hesitating and knowing that it’s risky, decided to go the hospital to see CYZ. He can’t help himself he needs to see with his own eyes that his man CYZ is ok. He didn’t show himself but left a note to CYZ.
- Then CYZ found the note saying “sorry” that JYL left him and even if the doctor asked him to stay in bed and not walking around, he went anyway and tried to chase after JYL hoping to see him. He didn’t see him but we saw JYL (full of love and relieved) hiding himself and staring at his CYZ!
Gosh, if it’s not true love I don’t know what it is !

And I think you are right, they probably chose this ending at the beginning they didn’t expected this drama to be a little popular to the extent to have fans complaining about it. At first it looks like they just through this drama on screen without any expectation about it being successful or not. And now they are like « shit what can we do xD » Really hope also they will give us à proper spin off episode (and not just a novel writing or something) I don’t believe the cast will reunite again to shoot extra scene but it’s possible that they have extras already filmed scenes to do a little spin off. So I don’t know what happened here, they shoot this drama in 2018 and have to fight for years to put it on screen. Maybe it’s due to censorship that they have to make a character died at the end? Maybe they don’t have too much choices or wasn’t thinking too much about it at the time? But happy to hear that this ending is not canon and we will maybe get a proper spin off with a happy ending ! If not I will use my best editing skills and cut this bad ending myself ahahah

So agree with you! I love this show so much!!! Yes the end is tragic and painful, but on the other hand it was so beautiful!! Chen Yu Zhi is the best character ever! I am so happy that they met together, happy be able to watch their journey together, and happy that CYZ was always there for JYL and was able to save him!!
Even if it's a real tragic and sad ending. It was still so beautiful and I loved this show deeply.
Specially because of the beauty of Chen Yu Zhi character! One of the greatest, strongest, faithful and noble character that I have ever seen in drama land. He was always there to help others without asking anything in return. He was so understanding. For him the world is not just black and white, with good or bad people. For him, circumstances matters, people are allowed to make wrong choices because of life, and everyone deserve a second chance. (I will remember forever the short moments between Chen Yu Zhi and the "not so bad guy" Wang Meng).
And before leaving this world, that the lesson our doctor teaches to Jiang Yue Lou. To be able to open himself to others, to trust and to forgive others. And Jiang Yue Lou was saved by Chen Yu Zhi thanks to their meeting.
Before knowing the doctor, Jiang Yue Lou was lost, alone, angry, sad, blind to other, unable to trust anyone and full of emotions that he couldn't control. The drama is about his journey to heal himself and to open the door of his heart that he closed many years ago. And as Chen Yu Zhi said to our policeman in the drama: "If you cannot open this door from the inside, let someone from the outside opens it for you."
Chen Yue Zhi was his blessing. Thanks to him Jian Yue Lou is now able to love and trust again. And even if this end (that I still really hate lol!) is so hard, so painful and so tragic for me, Jian Yue Lou is saved and healed now and he will be ready to start the new life that Chen Yue Zhi offered him.
So Chen Yue Zhi, I want to say to you that I am happy that you exist in this drama world. I am so sad and so sorry for you but thank you for what you did for Jian Yue Lou
It's fine, it's fine.... in my mind the real ending of this show end at Ep 37 at time point 26'55'' exactly and they get their happy ending!!! The drama ended it here! Nothing happened after that.... NOTHING!!! Episode 37 end at 26'55'' : FINAL!

That is also true for Lost Tomb: the actor (Yang Yang) playing ZQL character at the time completely stole the show, so it could be that they don't want the same happen again specially with ZYL playing Wuxie as you suggested.
But even in this reboot in the first 15 episodes, ZQL was more proactive with a lot of fight scenes. Even if the Iron Triangle was not always onscreen together all the 3 have fair amount of screen time, but starting Season 1 Ep 16 until Season 2 Episode 16 ZQL is just AFK.... And now yes he is back onscreen, but probably thanks to some odd editing work, it looks like he's just a PNG in a random video game. Always in the background, sometimes giving some advice or help and that's it.

Sadly I'm agree with you about Bambi getting more and more screen time than the Iron Triangle (damned Disney Rule!!! xD) And it's getting more obvious in Ep 18... And the iQiyi preview also confirm she will still be around until Ep 24.... Ahaha I know it's not a location I know its the famous trio WX, Fatty and ZQL. My question here is why we don't see them having screen time together (when I said "Where" I mean why they are not together on screen. I'm sorry I should have phrase it better.)
But I was really thinking that this reboot will be about the trio working and having adventures together again.... also because in the novel ZQL was missing behind the bronze door for more than 10 years before the reboot event and Fatty and WX was waiting after him... again for 10 years... So I don't understand why in this reboot ZQL has less screen time than the supporting characters :( Super sad a little bit
