For watchers who are still having a hard time understanding the characters' motivations of the Oh sisters and the way they react to their circumstances, I'm recommending a very insightful read -- a character study of the three sisters in relation to their Little Women (novel) counterparts written by @yourstrulyastu . The Oh sisters are written with all their flaws intentionally. Happy watching and reading everyone!
Is Oh Injoo character suppose to be dumb or written dumb? like she is saying this to a guy who fell from a high…
InJoo is written as a naive and dumb character; she was intentionally written that way. Also, it has been said multiple times through the orchid metaphors that she's like that one orchid -- unimpressive at first but will be dazzling once it blooms. The actress (Kim Go Eun) playing Injoo also described Injoo as a "dumb" character in one of the promotions for the drama.
+ Everything that In Joo did/talked about with her friend was a foreshadowing to Episode 1's ending / conclusion.…
The production designer (set design) of Little Women is Ryu Seong Hee. She also usually works with Park Chan Wook. The wallpapers are her signature work. That's why Little Women set designs look familiar because it is her signature work style. 🙂 Little Women team is really full of talented women. From the director, writer, cast and even the production designer. It's a dream team.
Writer Jung Seo Kyung :"I wanted to name it Little Women to convey a sense of solidarity with the poor girls in…
Writer Jung Seo Kyung (continuation):
"I wanted to write a story in which young people are the main characters in their 10s, 20s, and early 30s. All characters run, roll, bleed, and fight each other with all their might for their goals and it's similar to other stories in the world."
Just posting this up here again. Jung Seo Kyung on Little Women Korean adaptation (Tatler Asia Interview, Nov. 2021):
"Recently, I had the chance to read it again when I working on this drama and I find that it’s a bit boring and not interesting anymore. The sisters are too nice in the books and I don’t think young people are really like that these days. The Korean adaptation isn’t going to be exactly like the book, some things will remain the same like of course, there will three sisters and their personalities will remain more or else the same."
If it weren't for Jinyoung, Yumi cells 2 would not have blew up in popularity. I dare say it's the hottest kdrama…
Please don't post unfounded claims like this here. The source material of this drama itself is a very popular webtoon by Lee Dong-gun with over 3.2 billion total views in SK and internationally. The first season of Yumi's Cells was actually popular and successful; you can go and search countless articles about it on the internet. High tv ratings alone don't equal success; Yumi's cells S1 was placed on a Fri-Sat 10:50 pm timeslot . Time slot plays a big factor on tv ratings. And the 2nd season was intentionally not aired on tvn to actually encourage people to subscribe to tving since its a tving original and it would be exclusively available there in SK. Now, would SK netizens be interested in S2 if S1 was not a good show? I don't think so. People actually patiently waited for S2 to air.
Now regarding your claim about Jinyoung as the sole reason for its popularity, what a huge disrespect to all the people involved in this production. He's doing a fine job as Babi, but no offense meant to him, Babi could be any SK actor out there and people will still watch and talk about this drama even though Babi is not played by him. Babi the webtoon character alone is popular among SK people. It doesn't necessarily have to be him.
P.S. I actually have no idea who is actor Park Jin Young before this drama. I also know a lot of people who have no idea who he is before this drama. I am watching this drama not because of him but because I am actually a fan of the webtoon and Yumi. Thanks to this drama more people like me now know about him and can finally recognize his name and not just the park jin young who is also known as JYP, the founder of JYP entertainment.
Gosh I was about to type the same similar thing as you! I finally watched both episodes and it left me scratching…
I think the show is intentionally not showing Babi's cells for a reason. I am convinced they are doing this for a purpose. I mean why would they not show the audience the cells of one of the main leads when the show is basically about discussing thought processes. Maybe they were aiming for Babi to look more "mysterious" but something about the portrayal of the character or the direction choices that is not completely giving the audience that "mysterious" feeling about Babi. Instead, Babi just felt like the typical "perfect" character which some may claim as "boring" or "bland".
In the webtoon all of this is explained. He has a cell called overreacting and that makes him a really good person,…
I've read the webtoon too. Yumi and Babi's relationship was the longest in the webtoon so I think out of all her bfs, Babi had the most time with her.
I think you're looking at it way too much from Babi's pov. They broke up and then got back again. Yumi tried to save their relationship too and that was proven by her getting back with him again; she gave it another shot and took the risk. You may consider it as a "flaw" but for Yumi it might be a dealbreaker; people's values and principles are different. Also thinking it from Yumi's pov, she came from a relationship in which she was cheated on. She knew that pain all too well and we as readers can't just expect her to easily forgive and forget what happened. Not all people can live with that, and I think it is selfish to expect people to just get over their pain & insecurities to maintain a what seemed to be a "perfect" relationship. For me, I think Yumi chose herself. She realized she needed to let go because she chose to love herself more. She even chose to not be mad at Babi for what happened even though it's hard for her (webtoon Ep. 391).
In my opinion, Yumi met Woong that night because she knew that the thought of Woong waiting in the cold out there in a Christmas Eve would bother her the whole night if she didn't go. And no she was not disrespecting Babi by going out to meet Woong; I think that's her way of truly choosing Babi. She genuinely wanted to enjoy the night with Babi, and she knew that if she didn't go the mere knowledge of Woong out there would just bother her not because she's still has feelings for Woong but because as a person she still care for him somehow. She needed that closure with Woong to truly enjoy that moment with Babi. She went there with that poster with her; she finally returned that poster to him and I think that poster is a symbol of her ending any association with Woong. She stopped what was Woong was about to say by saying she has a boyfriend already. She drew the line with Woong.
And it's not like she wasn't going to tell Babi that it was Woong. She was about to explain her side to Babi but he chose to stop her and just trust her. Babi trusts Yumi's love for him because he knows when Yumi is in love she's always loyal. Heck, even the handsome Babi was just a stickman in her eyes when she was still with Woong. 😂
I hope everyone is watching this new season knowing that this story is more about Yumi, her cells, and her growth than all her romantic relationships combined. For all those asking if they could skip watching the first season, I personally think the first season is just as important as this season. Skipping S1 does not only mean missing the details about her cells and whatnots, but also missing her whole journey to her first growth. It is not the idea or some details of her cells that you’ll miss but the WHOLE EXPERIENCE of riding this journey with her character as she faces different struggles.
I personally believe you’ll appreciate Yumi’s character better and understand this new season more meaningfully if you’ve watched S1. I hope you all can ride this whole journey with Yumi from the very start, in that way, I think somehow in some small but significant ways you’ll be able to grow with her too (like I did).
Is Lee Yoo Bi's character good or bad, and does she has a romantic relationship in this? I love her
If they follow the webtoon, Ruby will have a love interest. Her love interest is part of the cast but we're not sure if they'll write a love line for her in the drama. I hope they show her cells tho. Ruby is a very interesting character in the original and her cells have their own special charm too.
It's a Tving original and compared to the 1st season this season is exclusively airing on the platform (South Korea) and other international streaming services. It's not concurrently airing on tVN so there's two episodes being released at once (every Friday at 4pm KST).
How would a little women adaptation be like that though? At least a faithful one?
I think this one will just be loosely based on the original Little Women. The story is also set in the present times so I think there will be a lot of changes. We'll see.
Some sources are saying that this drama genre is thriller/dark comedy. Very very interesting. I wonder what story writer Jung Seo Kyung had concocted here. I'm excited!
Do you think there will be Yumi Cells 3? Or do you guys think they’ll wrap it up with 2?
If ever there will be a continuation of Yumi's story, I don't think it would be a full season (14 episodes) like this. Maybe just a special or a short movie? I think the third guy is a very important character to be omitted from the series, but his appearance in the webtoon is relatively shorter compared to Woong's and Babi's. We might not get a complete appearance of the third guy in season 2 but maybe just a hint of him (a back appearance maybe, lol, just like the very first poster). Then they may or may not continue the story from there as a special or short.
Btw, there's a planned animation and musical adaptation for Yumi's Cells.
Kudos to this drama for casting someone who really has a disability instead of just making an actor play a disabled character. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I've seen a kdrama that made this decision in casting. This drama really goes out there and talk about issues that other screenwriters wouldn't even dare to explore with this depth. I have always recognized how Noh Hee Kyung doesn't write "likeable characters"; she writes real people with, as much as possible, realistic stories. As always, you can trust NHK to execute this kind of stories not only with depth but with so much sincerity, heart, and respect.
So far I’ve only seen 2 of writernim’ previous work: It’s Okay That’s Love and That Winter The Wind Blows.…
Dear My Friends is highly recommended. I shed tears as early as episode 2 and every episode afterwards. Just pure brilliance. I don't think any of words I write here can give any justice to what a profound experience watching DMF is. But I think it's not advisable to binge watch it. You will need time in between episodes to process it. It's simply beautiful.

Note: There is a separate thread for each sister.

Did the author exactly said that he "hated" Babi as a character? I am curious here; kindly asking for the source of this info. Thank you.
