I think Joseph Zheng act for a character out of his usual character is interestinf.
For some reason i fewl Bai Jiu Si character was made for Baijingting🤣.
Even thought this series has many stars that I like, both of main lead and He Rui Xian.. inhave hard time to enjoy it… it can be a good one but the story telling is all over the place and too many filler scenes..🥲

It will be hard to stick with novel since lots of scenes need understanding eith the cultures and views at that time and china. Even this “watered down” WS character got complained as red flag etc from some chat here that using modern day standards

In chinese drama, they shoot the end of the drama first and the start of the story end, so they can get better emotion from the actresses

I think there’s cultural differences, understanding and expectation between chinese/eastern cukture and overseas culture. I can see how the chat react to sone scenes /story here too
