honestly when he was given the option of leaving I expected him to leave and he indeed did leave. I would do that too if I was him in that situation, he needs time to think and let things sink in so he can decide what to do next knowing that I'll expose everything later which is gonna bring Jin back sooner or later when the truth comes out.

I believe he didn't want to burden and hurt Jin with him more him leaving felt like a selfless move, he doesn't even know what happened exactly to even defend himself even when he tried it wasn't believable everything is a mess in his head.

he's definitely not an angel in the manga just metaphorically, but since the plot is changed in the anime and this adaption he's completely a green forest in the series ver. I believe they changed that part of him being a red flag because in the manga it was just brushed off like he didn't 🍇 that dude couple times and wasn't addressed seriously at all and that would not work with a human live action adaption so best option is to remove it completely than rewriting the whole plot and adding new events.
