I don't think that he did that with the purpose of betraying his friend or cause him any harm. For him, Nakan was always nice and he seemed human. Mark on the other hand acted suspicious more than once, in his opinion. I don't want to defend him, I just say that I understand his emotions in that moment. Everyone did something dumb when they were emotionally, he just is unlucky that his world suddenly is full of vampires and the possibility to get killed by them. I don't think that he fully understands the changes in his life and the consequences.
