This is a tough one. I really want to watch this but it's always the question of do I watch it now or wait. Looks…
Give in...go on the ride in real time so that nothing gets spoiled for you. Mysteries/suspense are always better when you get to speculate without a definite answer for a time.

Title When the Phone Rings Spoiler
At the ending of episode 4, did SE already know that 406 is HJ?
I don't think he sees the phone. Nor does he know what the burner phone looks like. The scene is cut in a way that you can't tell if she's turning cause she sees him or if she just heard him coming....aka there may be time to hide the phone before he gets a clear view of it.

The explosion happened, and no one was seriously injured. How is that even possible?
The only explanation they gave was the device malfunctioned in some way and wasn't as powerful as it was supposed to be. But, but, buuuutttt...they showed a rather large explosion on screen so I am, confusion. Also why was Sa Eon the one unconscious in the hospital with his right hand man standing perfectly fine next to him when the right hand man was closer to the bomb when it went off? like there was a whole door between him and the bomb. Concussive explosions will disorient you even with a wall between you and the bomb, but still.

I've also seen/hear it used in the queer community(But I highly doubt that is the reference here)
Could just be a sang usage here like Dude, Bro etc that become gender neutral at times.
And I think she's the youngest amongst her peers and family members. Unless she spent more time at the orphanage in her youth than we have been shown yet...it could just be he's cray cray and it's a him thing.

I started thinking that the sister might be the mastermind behind the whole plan. What would be the reason for…
I think that she didn't want to be a pawn in her families games, and didn't care about her step-sister, because no one else cared about her. She's most likely coming back because of something to do within the family.

Title When the Phone Rings Spoiler
why did the fl even take the kidnapper's phone? also..wouldn't it have some sort of tracking device in it or something..not…
She took the phone because she heard her husband say "Call me when there's a corpse."
She was blackmailed into the marriage by everyone around her. The only reason she stayed married was because her mother was holding her father's care over her head, and she can't afford the prenup clauses fines.
She uses the opportunity to use a device that cloaks her voice, location, and motive to get money from her husband so she can pay for her father's care & so that HE asks for the divorce and she doesn't have to pay the prenup clause money.
She's been forced to stay pretty much voiceless for 20 years. I say pretty much because she openly talks to her father and some hospital staff.

Also, she wanted to fuck with her husband a bit after everything she's been through. She was in love with him(or at least had a major crush on him for many years if not decades) only for him to be cold and indifferent towards her and her well being after marriage. She doesn't know that the only reason he hasn't slept with her is because he thinks it's her mother egging her on and pimping her daughter out as a bride to a wealthy family. He doesn't know that her advances came from a sincere yet nervous affection for him when they got married.

Neither the ML nor FL know that he other has had feelings for them for years, if not decades.

Did I miss something? Why suddenly the FL mentioned 406? Who is 406?
406 is the area code of the phone number of the burner phone...aka 406 is the kidnapper's nickname.

Title When the Phone Rings Spoiler
So theory time activated...in spoiler tag below.
So theories with Ji Sang U:
1)Ji Sang U witnessed the aftermath of whatever happened to the chairman's son(step-brother) of Hui Ju when they were children. Hui Ju was also a victim of something that happened that day, but she didn't actually know Ji Sang U as a child.

2)Ji Sang U isn't Ji Sang U, and the two boys switched at some point, and he's been hiding his identity since the day he was "murdered". He was already good at sign language because his sister was deaf and picked it back up in college when he sees Hui Ju and knows her connection to his family.

3) Ji Sang U knew Hui Ju as a child, but she doesn't remember him.

Theories with the Kidnapper:
1)The kidnapper is the "dead" son of the chairman. And the chairman is his "master". His father "killed" him because of some horrific thing he did as a child that would tarnish the family if it were known to the public so he "killed" his son so that he could hide him and sweep up any psychotic thing he did. If he was already showing psychotic behavior as a child the chairman might have isolated him from others as a safety measure. Hence why he was relatively alone in a big house near the orphanage.

2)The kidnapper is another orphan from the same orphanage as Ji Sang U, and is being used by the chairman.

3)The kidnapper is another orphan from the same orphanage as Ji Sang U, and is responsible for the death of the chairman's only son, and the accident that put Hui Ju in the hospital.

Theories with Baek Sa Eon:
1) He's actually secretly fluent in sign language, but never told Hui Ju. (this one I don't really have a strong feeling on, because I feel like he would have slipped up at some point by now, but she's never slipped with her voice around him either so.....room temp theory)

2) Baek Sa Eon knew the chairman's family for 20 + years and saw how mistreated Hui Ju was by everyone around her. He also knew that anything he enjoyed or liked could be used against him so he kept his distance until he found out she was going to be "sold off" as a bride to a wealthy, horrible man. He never liked Hong In Ah, not even as a friend, because of the way Hong In Ah treated Hui Ju.(Also Hong In Ah being deaf explains why their conversation was through text even though they were both alone at the time she was ending the engagement over the phone.)

These are just a few, but general theory as that all the 20-30somethings knew each other as children and we'll slowly get more info about whatever sent Hui Ju to the hospital and "killed" the chairman's son.

Im wondering if the production left it a bit open in case they wanted to expand on Duan Wu's story later on. As there have been a fair few season 2s of shows the past few years. Though in my heart of hearts i know Yan Zi Jing succumbed to the poison I still have some critique about how they went about showing that.
With a show about jewelry & the like, I would have liked to see something to represent his passing or their relationship within the Jewelry she wears in the final scene with the rest of the guild. I dont know enough about Chinese culture like I do my own & Korean culture so im not sure if they have similar ways of showing age, occupation, marital status etc through hair accessories & jewelry.
The ways to show mourning arent as clear to me in this time frame. If anyone knows what im talking about please help me out.

Title The Story of Pearl Girl Spoiler
I'm still sad thinking about this drama's ending. Cause like she's just alone sort of by the end. She has her new found family, but yeah...he's 100% dead. Don't know what happened to his righthand man, if he stayed with Duan Wu or went his own way. Zhang Jin Ran wouldn't have been able to legally marry her so he most likely would have been married off at some point and continued to rise within the government. In old age she's still with the trading convoy of her own. It's giving Titanic, but without the knowledge that Rose went on to love again and have a full rich life even though she loved Jack still into her 90s.
I don't know why all the networks decided that all their shows were going to have sad endings for the back half of 2024, but next time can you through us a damn bone please. The only one that I sort of liked the ending to was Love Game in Eastern Fantasy. (By the way I'm mainly upset about the tragic endings because of all the bs happening in the real world. I wanted some happy endings in the fictional worlds that I watch as an escape.)

streets are saying this is good should i just start it
first time in a long while I wasnt checking to see how much was left in an episode while watching. The episodes are only an hour long instead of the what has become usual hour & 20-30 minute episodes that tend to drag(imo). With 12 episodes & it being more on the suspense side I'm hopeful that there won't be adding weight in the back half to fill runtime.

I have a question. Nobody knows who the wife is, but I just looked up to be sure and marriage licenses are public…
He's the son of a presidential hopeful & also works in the government so it is classified information. Also her mother married into a big news conglomerate so they are also able to pull/wipe things from the internet. i.e. his father's indiscretions magically not making headlines news. They are a marriage of mutual destruction. The families tied each other together so that if one goes down they both do.

wait just 12 episodes? I thought it’s 16 😩
12 is perfect for suspense dramas. longer ones tend to not know what to do and end up filling the runtime with unnecessary characters or have random extra plots popping up out of nowhere.

This is another drama I wish comments were allowed while watching like on https://www.viki.com/
it's one of those shows I understand why people become content reviewers/reaction channels on youtube. because I just want to interject with my own thoughts in the middle of a scene. I'm glad I watched alone cause I would have annoyed the shit out of anyone near me.

Earplugs, sweetie. Hugs.
It's the vibration. Their car-port(with no cars) acted as an amplifier for each whack and thump. As my non insulated bedroom window is less that five yards from said car-port it was the equivalent of being behind the car of a teenage boy with his first subwoofer blasting dubstep. You can't hear shit but you can sure as hell feel it.

Come home at 3am to find all the episodes have dropped...😭I hope I can finish them before I pass out from tiredness. It's Wicked weekend and I'm a theater manager...yall...pray for my sanity. And I swear to all that is holy, if my neighbor decides he wants to be Noah again while I'm sleeping I will have a mental breakdown. Nothing like waking up 2 hours into sleep to the sounds of an outbuilding being hammered into existence.🥺😢

PS I will never actually complain to my neighbor about building things on their property on a weekday at 10 am...I just happen to work nights, & my bedroom is near their backyard, that is not their fault.
