I now understand what people mean by the subtitles being unhinged. Up to episode 3 it was subbed by a human. But 4-6 as of now are only Machine subbed and dear lord....not good. Even my very limited Mandarin understanding is helping to fill in the translation better in my head than the subtitles. But the second something is said under someone's breath...I'm lost.

I'm enjoying the show, but looks like this is going to have to be a wait til the weekend to watch all the episodes that came out instead of watching daily. Which is unfortunate as I was looking forward to episodes 4-8 after work tonight. Oh well. Mango...people hire humans...the international audience is begging you.

are the subs bad on mango or something. I'm watching on a different site and haven't seen anything supper wrong or annoying. But I'm not good at Mandarin so for all I know it's bs. But the English sentences are making grammatical sense.

Honestly it's a bit vague there for a while. The loaded conversations with double meanings. From 21-23 he is uncovering that she has her memories back. They part ways in episode 23. He wanted her to stay even after knowing she was the real Lu Wen. But she stabs him with a hair pin and he cleans it and puts in back in her hair....intense.

The characters together mean 'Willow Boat' I think based off of translation. But like the other's said it's the last characters of the ML and FL's names
Be interested to know if the Willow portion comes from her name. Willows bend, but don't break and can withstand harsh storms. So it would be cool if it's associated with her.

By 18 she knows he's not who he says he is. By 21(edit; looked at my notes) she has confirmation that he is Lord Huaiyang based on his story/scar on his hand.

There are so many puns and visual jokes getting lost in translation with this one. The green leaf falling on his head while he watches FL talk with his cousin and the painter. I couldn't stop laughing. I wish they would include translator notes in their translations, but that's not as common anymore.

These relationships are plot spoilers so beware. short answer at least 3 OW and 1 OM.


ML is engaged to his maternal cousin, who does want to marry him. ML does not want to marry her, but is willing to because before meeting the FL he honestly didn't care about marriage/love. He thought of marriage as a duty and nothing more. He finds her annoying.

Second FL (He Zhen), has had a crush on ML since he saved her years prior from kidnappers. ML barely knew of her existence, and does not hold any feelings for her. (His paternal cousin, the "doctor" falls in love with He Zhen)

ML is "gifted" a betrothal to a princess by the Grand Empress Dowager(Zi Yu's great grandmother) in episode 28....tbd on where this is going...nowhere hopefully as ML has sworn multiple times that he will never marry anyone but FL in his life. If she will not marry him, he will not marry...ever.

FL was very close with Zi Yu and Zi Yu "loves" her. He knew how she feels about monogamy and betrayed her anyway. (either on purpose or accident yet to be decided) But homie knew he was going to be Emperor soooooo.....monogamy is kind of a no go for that title. I think FL at one point had feelings for him before she knew who he was related to.

Rewatching. Can't believe I almost forgot about the Chicken-Duck arguments in otherwise extremely serious conversations/situations. I'm dead.

He looked down cause her hands moved and made a sound...he wasn't checking her for weapons. The second he read the letter sent from his friend though....yeah hackles fully up. Personally think he might have found her dagger in the vase. Or something with her handwriting...if he and Lu Wen ever corresponded he might know her handwriting prior to her injuries changing it. Now that she's healed both physically and mentally her handwriting might have gone back to her previous style without her realizing it.
