Although the drama did suffer in the writing from some idol drama tropes that weren't necessarily in the source material, the overall production was very high and well executed. Actors did their jobs well, as well as all other on set departments. Some of the editing/cinematography had some baby dips here and there, but you wouldn't really notice unless you were looking for it. As that's something I look at with a production of this level I noticed.
Even with the large 56 episodes ordered I think it exceeded Love Like the Galaxy in it's level of maintaining high quality lighting and cinematography. (Love Like the Galaxy is the only other show of that length from China that I've watch, which is the only reason I bring it up for reference.)
I just really loved the lighting throughout this whole 32 episodes so far. Seriously, directors, please take a page out of this director and the director of Blossom books for lighting a scene in period dramas.
Also huge shout out to the VFX team as they really did the damn thing. "What VFX?" you might ask...and to that I would say, exactly. The best VFX are the kind that go unnoticed by the viewer. Those transition shots of the city going from day to night back to daytime...loved that it wasn't just a static shot with nothing happening.
Zhu Fu and Chuan Yu definitely a CP I ship. I hope they have a HE in part 2.
Needs to get over his infatuation with Mu Dan first. Also with how different their social classes are, unless A Chun gets demoted like Mu Dan was there isn't a chance in hell that her father would allow her to marry a sickly servant. He's not a slave, but he is just above that. I just know that he will be a new pot stirrer. Add in the other new canon fodder with Ms. Tang and the 3 women who start working for Mu Dan....In my mind every time someone new popped up in the last few episodes I was like "Welcome to the Red Shirt team, may the odds be ever in your favor. "
Asian drama pastries and cakes look pretty but they look very dry or gelatinous.
Ever had a mooncake? They are extremely dense. I never judge actresses anymore when they nibble on the molded pastries...it's a lot of food packed in a very small space.
And this, ladies and gents, was the 2ML original villain story, of his own making lol
Truly. Miles is doing a really good job at making his character believable. That complete ignorance/selfishness when it comes to Mu Dan's future/safety...his moral high horse and how he feels betrayed by his own family numerous times. How he now sees his past lover as a pawn that he has to put up with. He just nailed this character.
Is there anywhere to watch ep 28+ with real subtitles? these ai subs are horrible thought i was going crazy couldn’t…
We'll just have to wait. Fan subs just aren't really a thing anymore so having that 6 hours or less turn around with in depth translator notes is a thing of the past.
So, the fl cut off her family? Surely they now know she’s alive??
I think they will pop up again in season 2. I'm not sure if they will be physically near her, but I'm sure word has gotten to them by now about her marrying Jiang Chang Yang. With the younger brother of Qin Seung Yi already joining up with Mu Dan I think more people will trickle back into the story, including her savior from the carriage in the mountains. I haven't read the novel/source material so I don't know for sure who is important that we've met and who we have yet to meet for part 2. I think if anyone her father would go to the capital to at least see her from a far just to check on her.
I don't know if my dyslexia is helping me or hurting me with these machine translated episodes.🤣 I just keep praying I have enough context to actually understand. I will say that it's helping me improve my Mandarin listening skills though. I was going to wait until everything was subbed properly, but I'm snowed in and got called off of work because my area doesn't have the infrastructure for snow. So machine translated finally it is. I'll most likely rewatch these again once viki airs them in HD.
does someone know where to watch ep 28 with English subs
I was so confused just now. I watched what I thought was episode 28 but was actually episode 29.(in my defense it was listed as episode 28) I was like...this is strange, production's editing has been really well done...why do I have no context for what is happening....I should have just waited....
yall know it won't happen still writing whole ass essays for it damn
I don't know why I got lumped into a conversation about directors forcing things. When my original comment was about stating the fact it was NOT going to happen because of her age and the fact this isn't North America. The woop-woop joke was about the movies dramas from the 2000s being problematic.
I'm putting a little too much faith in the fact the roads might be closed due to the snow storm yesterday and staying up to watch the last episodes....I really should just tap out and sleep first just in case I do have to go into work.

First and foremost this is a comment section where people come to discuss the drama and aspects of the drama. That will include topics like age and experience in the industry to get a feel for what to expect of an unaired show.
I just wrote this today for the first time. I did not scroll to oblivion to read all the comments. This is a universal ick that many people have with entertainment. I am fully aware that Chinese dramas treat their actors with way more respect when it comes to minors and intimate scenes than my own country...aka the land of Nickelodeon and Disney...iykyk
It just so happens that Tian Tian is also reprising her role in Rebirth with Li Yun Rui as the ML...So now looking at the trailer and recognizing the actress and knowing WinWin(WayZenNi present and accounted for) and Li Yun Rui's ages it was bringing back flashbacks to shows/movies I watched back in the day.
Child actors are a polarizing topic, more so now then ever before as they have platforms to speak out. What I'm getting at is...the Chinese entertainment industry is a completely different beast than that of it's Western counterparts. I I have yet to see an actual minor in any on screen situation that I would personally consider inappropriate, and I'm grateful for it. Also have seen many a show curve the kisses all together when an actor/actress isn't comfortable with that aspect. The Double didn't show a single on screen kiss with any characters that weren't married to one another. The ex husband and the princess was all camera angles, faces in necks, curtains and wide shots. Prior to the leads getting married it was a pan to a candle or laced fingers. That was the directors personal choice. Tian Tian is in a stage of transition in her career. (I've been deep diving as she will be in a few show's I have on my plan to watch list) She's no longer playing the younger version of the lead but getting lead roles herself. Slowly moving from web dramas to longer format. Wanting to make sure that she is still treated as the child she is, isn't a bad thing.
Oh honey....I might as well have one foot in the grave the way you're talkin. 🤣🤣😂💀 You see back in…
I have fully embraced the Auntie fan within me. I'm usually like "Aww they are adorable, can't wait to see how their acting progresses in the future." I still call most of them kids when I discuss them out loud.
Its cuz winwin is paired with a 17 year old actress, they have 10 years age gap. But I personally believe that…
Considering she was 16 and he was 26 at the time of filming I would hope they keep their relationship chaste/playful and/or pan down/up a la The Double for any kiss scenes. (In The Double unless two characters were married you didn't really see them kiss, it was all camera angles and wide shots or pan up/down implied kiss.)
why no one told me that this drama is airing soon omg
It was just announced you know how Cdrama's roll. There was one that we got notified less than 24 hours before it started airing recently. I figured it was coming this month or February because Netflix released not only a reminder feature, but also dropped a full trailer.
