Most Douban ratings are from the first 6 episodes/ on the first day of airing. It’s a pattern I noticed on almost all dramas. If something doesn’t have a ‘perfect’ start, the ratings are always cooked.

It’s very enjoyable! I like that he’s choosing more unique scripts, this screenwriter is solid and the director is impressive too. I really like that at the core of the drama is the question, do we love for who people really are or for who we think they are.

She’s so beautiful and elegant! I hope she has a good career ahead of her ☺️

Here it’s me posting about Xingjia again, but he’s such comic relief haha “don’t spoil Master Zhou’s beautiful face!” Then smashes him with a basin lol.
Also Guanyue playing fortune teller was so funny.
Guess my favorites are Uncle Lei, Guanyue, and Xingjia now.

I see your point, I thought he was supposed to be a bit crazy as he had such a traumatic upbringing ( I never read the novel so have no clue how his character was there) and as such I found him really interesting. I see the point you’re making, I just thought it was the intention of the screenwriter to make the character more conflicted.

Everyone has a right to dislike a character etc., obviously, but I think it’s a bit too much to insult the writer. Multifaceted and even hypocritical characters are appealing to some people as they like to project or escape from reality. I really hope nobody thinks fictional characters are supposed to be written for people to imitate…I can only understand your argument against the writer if you think that way, but that seems a bit obtuse.

Anyone else catch that Xingjia was casually signing a snippet of the ending song in ep 21? I love Easter eggs like that haha

Side note but I’ve always hated the whole “childhood sweethearts make the best lovers” idea and am glad this drama is showing that it doesn’t always work out. Maybe I’m biased because I’m 100% certain my poor husband would have never married me if he grew up with me lol but luckily I was across the ocean.

I think so as well, especially after the flashback with his wife. I think Chang knew too much…

Yeah I don’t understand the hate towards it at all! Even my usual favorite blogs on tumblr were bashing it (I know 90s born here I’m so old I use tumblr still lol)

But you know it would make sense because he knew exactly how to heal the poison in MQ, so perhaps he was behind the attack at Chang fort. Also his nonchalant style matches the typical demon sect styling lol He’s still my crush though!

This drama is very well shot and directed. I feel if you read the synopsis you shouldn’t be surprised by the subject matter. Not all demons are wronged heroes in disguise, I like that the Jade Waist servants aren’t whitewashed to seem perfect. It’s a unique way of storytelling that is perfect for a short drama format.

He was really good in Kill my Sins last year.

So happy to finally see ZYC again! This drama is so fun, his acting is so natural and he’s so agile for stunts. Love him and the FL interactions!

He is an established actor but he had a really rough time with his agency. He even had to sue them before he could get out of the contract. Now he has his own agency but he has to climb up himself. Luckily he had a good part in the CNY show and so I feel he has his feet on the ground and will do well now.

Ah here they’re not demons but demonic practitioners—so basically they use a different form of martial arts. It’s not demon like a creature, but rather a “deviant” method of martial arts.

He’s too hot to be in the righteous sect anyway🥵
