Was in a bit of a Cdrama slump whilst waiting for my anticipated ones to air and so watched this. Oh my goodness it was so poetical and beautiful! I cried every episode but I adored the character development and what the reasoning (albeit often flawed) behind their choices was. As a mum, I personally was quite irritated with Mizuki, but also had to realize we all make different choices in life. Natsu is probably the biggest green flag ML I’ve ever seen and I really felt for him. It’s a 9.5/10 for me as I just didn’t like a few details, but I think I’m being drawn more and more into the Japanese drama world!
My Brontë heart is so happy to have such beautiful, morally grey men. This is so much better for me than The Double was, as I had been hoping for more dark and complex characters. This is filling all of the boxes.
Calling Umi spoiled is a stretch. Let the child grieve. Like the grandparents She was just given the space to…
Nah I mean she’s absolutely spoiled but that’s okay. I lost my father at 5–much more tragically and traumatically. I never ran away from home. Her mother indulged her because she chose to make Umi her entire life. This sounds great but in fact is terrible parenting. My two sons are their own persons and my fulfillment isn’t just in being their mom. No child should have to hold that burden. Umi was forced to act in many ways like an adult, but also her every wish was catered too. Poor baby is struggling due to her mother’s choices. Of course this is my opinion as a parent and someone who lost their father young and struggled a lot.
Ugh Tsuno is just an irredeemable jerk to me. He doesn’t even want to see how much Natsu is trying. Umi is grieving but also is spoiled—there is nothing wrong with that, but blaming Natsu is not fair.
This is the most beautiful 'coming to age' drama I have watched honestly. Kyu-chan's growth, Daisaku's sincerity and my everlasting Yamanami Sensei's wisdom--all set to the background of such a desperate and troubled time--truly moving. I actually didn't know about the Shinsengumi and this drama inspired me to read the history behind them and the Ikeyada event.
The new girl ( Yun something—watching on Mango so I don’t always catch the names correctly) wanting to overturn the silk case is so annoying already. Pretty certain she’s going to be the annoying obsessed with ML trope. Hopefully not because I’ve been loving the drama so far!
I love the Chinese novel!!! Grateful that I understood it :) I bought it a few months ago! Read it so many times…
Gosh I’m jealous! I hope to one day be able to read Chinese well enough to read novels! I relied on machine translation to read it, but even so it completely captivated me so I was excited to see it get picked up for a drama. I don’t think I’ve ever accompanied a drama from novel, to rumor, to filming, to finally just waiting for it to air before.
Who else thinks the doctor is the brother he us looking for
I think so too—especially when he was so certain that he would be fine after being injured I was skeptical. I feel the average person would have been more concerned even if they ‘knew’ he was immortal because that takes a lot of mind bending to accept

Ahh I just can’t wait for this to air!
