That story was pure fluff tbh. I love the fact that Ping had a “I love sunshine” shirt on and had Peem wear a shirt with a literal sun on it. Just such a cute little touch.
This is by far one of the worst BL’s I’ve seen. It was just generally... awful. I’m honestly surprised it’s rated as high as it is. Tharn & Type’s relationship is completely toxic from the beginning. Type’s blatant homophobia and Tharn’s creepy actions just cannot be justified or excused. Also... what the hell was that storyline with poor Tar? Honestly, who thinks up something like that? The acting was really questionable at times. I personally don’t think TharnType/MewGulf had any chemistry at all, despite what a lot of watchers think. I was hoping as I continued to watch, I’d get even a tiny spark from them but... nope. Just all around very disappointing and at times downright annoying and frustrating.
That being said, I thought there were a few bright spots in the series, and they would be the characters of Techno, Thorn, and the Tar/Tum relationship. I loved Techno’s character and he was probably my favorite thing about the series. Always making me crack up. Thorn was a great character due to Tong’s acting. A big brother to be proud of. And although I hated the Tar rape storyline, I really enjoyed his interactions with Tum. Their scene in the last episode made me tear up. I wish we would have gotten to see more of them and the aftermath of Tum learning about what Tar went through.
I want to be excited about this but I’m a little wary. Mental illness is always a tough issue to tackle. I just hope they really did their research on DID and consulted professionals for advice. If they did and realistically portray DID, I think this has the potential to be a really great series dealing with a difficult subject.
xiao zhan is too deeply ingrained as wei wuxian. They need to cast someone else
I feel like that’s always a risk they’d have to take. And I know some people won’t be happy no matter who’s casted because they already have in their mind the actors/actresses they want to play the roles. But I truly feel like picking fresh actors (at least for XL and HC) would be a good thing. This way, I think people will have less preconceived notions or opinions about the actors. Or maybe this is just my wishful thinking haha. I’m already tired of people bashing the rumored actors and we’ve still got a long way to go.
I think there's two different versions of this drama the other one is cut shorter.
Yes. There are two different versions... the original and a Special Edition. The Special Edition is only 20 episodes, 30 episodes shorter than the original and it cuts out pretty much everything involving side characters and focuses mainly on Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s relationship. Maybe that’s the one you saw @ARS? Could explain why you think there are scenes that are missing or different.
Not the worst, but not the best. It was just okay. I think it suffered because of the same reason other Korean BL’s do... not enough time. Since it was so short, they really couldn’t dive deeper into the plot. I think Kim Tae Hyung trying to romance Choi Ki Wan was hilarious and probably my favorite part of the show. The kiss at the end was mediocre, although I really wasn’t expecting different. I wish they gave us more in general with this show.
Episode 3 was so good! Although I’m definitely biased because I love MaxNat lol. This could have easily turned into a plot for a full series honestly. It felt like it’s own complete little story compared to the first 2 episodes. They are my favorite pairing because they have so much chemistry and they mesh well together imo. First Y Destiny, now Close Friend. I hope they get their own full series soon! They definitely deserve it.

Exactly. They would never cast him to play another big role like Xie Lian when everyone already associates him with Wei Wuxian. Plus personally, I’d prefer someone newer/not as well known so they can make the character their own and be associated with it like Xiao Zhan + Wei Wuxian.
