Snowpiercer doesn't have a page so I'll just say it here- the fight scene with the axe-men is pure brilliance, especially the addition of the fish and the dark tunnel. Also fascinating is the way he goes for a more ambivalent view towards class hierarchy, depicting it as a necessary evil through Wilford's surprisingly logical description of why the train is run the way it is. Though it apparently isn't Asian enough for this site, I strongly advocate everyone to watch it.
Abso-lutely cracking director. The way he manages to infuse darkness with comedy (or vice versa) and maintain engaging yet socially critical narratives is top-notch.
It was a missed opportunity to have Kore-eda and Yagira Yuya working on the same series but in different episodes. At least old-timer Lily Franky is in episode 3.
Thanks for the review! I've been keep an eye on this movie for a long time but still haven't get around to watch…
No one should be turned off a movie just because someone else didn’t like it. Besides, this one was well received critically. It even played at the Venice film festival.
I'm still confused as to why this series has a 7.6/10 when series/movies that are far better have equal or lower ratings on this site. Why anyone could enjoy this unironically is beyond me. Are your brains made of cheese? Even thinking about how bad it is makes me fume. I wouldn't wish a viewing of Nippon Noir on my worst enemy. If you want a wacky series where lots of furniture gets destroyed you should watch the Eric Andre show.
For those that are shitting on this film I'd really love to know what your idea of a 'good story' is. You are of course entitled to dislike it but at least provide a good reason why besides being it being 'meh' or a 'flop'. What exactly did it do wrong and what might you have done instead?
