I suppose I put woman on hold because I don't like it when they go for the cancer plotline.
Soredemo Ikite Yuku is perhaps too melodramatic (too much crying!) but apart from that its a great human drama centred around guilt, catharsis and emotional purging.
While the cast of Wakamono Tachi looks great it is written by Shogo Muto, who put me off significantly with Nippon Noir. The reviewers that I trust also don't have anything good to say about it apart from the acting.
Oh goody this looks properly messed up. The supporting cast looks great and I have yet to see Nagasawa Masami do a dark and serious role. Hopefully this turns out to be something like Himizu.

Snowpiercer doesn't have a page so I'll just say it here- the fight scene with the axe-men is pure brilliance, especially the addition of the fish and the dark tunnel. Also fascinating is the way he goes for a more ambivalent view towards class hierarchy, depicting it as a necessary evil through Wilford's surprisingly logical description of why the train is run the way it is. Though it apparently isn't Asian enough for this site, I strongly advocate everyone to watch it.

I am aware that the likes of Ando Sakura, and others like Shinichi Tsutsumi have large followings in Japan. However, I feel that they have a comparatively small amount of appreciation on this site and amongst non-Japanese movie/tv viewers.
It was a missed opportunity to have Kore-eda and Yagira Yuya working on the same series but in different episodes. At least old-timer Lily Franky is in episode 3.
