On the social media account for this movie there are trailers in different languages. It looks like they're marketing to an international audience, which can only be a good thing.
I actually want to watch this but as you said I think its only playing w/English subtitles on airplanes. Whenever I watch a Japanese movie on a flight, I always wonder why the tip-top English subtitles that airplanes have access to are never released to the public.
Nothing exceptional but some badass, blood-soaked fun. Probably Fukushi Sota's best (read: most watchable) performance,…
Setting aside the 'enemy of the week' format, the biggest problem was the sudden addition of firearms. It felt so contrived and was probably done just to get long-name spear lady out of the picture. She deserved better tbh.
Nothing exceptional but some badass, blood-soaked fun. Probably Fukushi Sota's best (read: most watchable) performance, even if his character wasn't the most emotional antagonist to begin with.
If not for Sakura Ando she would be the best Japanese actress for me. She needs to comeback but I guess she got…
She went freelance two years ago which explains why she hasn't been getting roles. But she is definitely not down and out for the count. The past year she has been appearing in commercials, TV programs and theatre. From her Instagram she recently collaborated with Sakamoto Yuji for a stage performance so it's not out of the question for her to appear in another drama of his in the future. With some luck, she might be leading dramas and movies sooner rather than later.
Just coming back to say that the drama 'Soredemo Ikite Yuku' deals with similar ideas but with greater compassion. It coincidently stars Nagayama Eita as the (non psychopathic) male lead.
Yurucamp: -Flimsy imitation of an existing series that clings onto the anime to an excessive extent. -Terrible production value made all the more apparent by the awful styling and cheap sets that try to copy those in the anime but fail awfully. -Cringeworthy and exaggerated acting from a somewhat unlikeable cast. The transition from 2D to 3D destroys one's ability to suspend their disbelief towards the unrealistic behaviours of the characters. -Insinuates that you have to surround yourselves with silly little friends to obtain maximum happiness. -For all it copies the anime there is no 'Shiny days' smh. The opening and ending sequences look and sound trite and foolish.
Hitori Camp: -Completely original set of short stories. -Plays with its low production value for laughs, adding to the off-kilter sense of humour. -Naturalistic performances. Even if most are only around for one episode, the characters are compelling and relatable. -Takes an ambivalent view towards socialising- being with friends is great but there is also no shame in spending time alone either. -Absolute banger of a theme song.
Yurucamp (the drama) feels like a pale imitation of the anime, which (apart from the disgusting and needless fanservice) is a thoroughly more entertaining viewing experience. Why watch Yurucamp when you can watch Hitori Camp? Please don't crucify me
