Definitely one of my favorite dramas of this year! JCW as Choi Dae Hyun is a really authentic and heartwarming character and KYJ made me love her character, I really connect with her emotions as Saet Byul, I wasn't surprised that she made me cry every time things got emotional around her. The chemistry between JCW and KYJ is perfect, every time they two are together in scene you can feel the sparks fly. The slow burn love story was portrayed so cute and emotional, that you can really feel how Dae Hyun and Saet Byul fall for each other. The secondary characters were lovely and funny as hell, definitely the perfect complement to the story. Dal shik and Dae Hyun's parents were my favorite. I really like the whole OST but the main theme "Something" By Kang Daniel really stole my heart, I think it suit up Dae Hyun and Sat Byul moments and made them beautiful and all emotional. A lightheartning drama, funny as hell and really emotional when it needs to be. If you need something heartwarming and funny during this times are we're living for, you may watch this drama.
A highly recommended drama, I liked the story so much that there were several moments where I felt joy, anger and sadness along with the characters. It's a beautiful story about friendship, teamwork, pursuing your dreams and moving forward in spite of life's difficulties.
Thank you for the enlightenment of all the chaos behind this production. I'm really fond to the Japanese and korean version that the simple idea of this show still sound unacceptable to me. I remember that horrible train wreck, TBH since the first time I heard about the show I really thought it was really unnecessary a western remake but somehow they still managed to get a little bit of my curiosity and when I watched the first episode Oh boy! what a disaster! That thing still's makes me cringe as hell. I respect the fact that the heads behind this project were fans of kdramas and the Hallyu wave, but unfortunately for the show there are a huge fan base behind the Boys Over Flowers lore that obviously maked things worse for them. Great article!
Your analysis is very deep, I liked it. It didn't cross my mind that maybe from other point of view the end could be interpreted as a tragic loop for the characters. In a more optimistic POV maybe Ha Ru and Dan Oh will be living more happily in this new manhwa because as you point out maybe they are now just background characters and that will relieve the pression of living with a determined character configuration that they need to stick to on stage in "Secret, but also it's true that maybe their existence it will be more limited by not knowing when they will stop being drawn in the story. Wow! This is more deep that I initially thought. Thank you for such a great article!
If you are looking for a very deep plot maybe this drama isn't for you, but if you really like light-hearted stories…
I really like this drama, it is true that at the end some questions remain unanswered but from my point of view I think that the end tell us that doesn't matter in which comic Ha Ru and Dan Oh will be drawn they'll end reuniting and falling in love. I'll read the webcomic to see the parts that the writers adapted on the show.
If you are looking for a very deep plot maybe this drama isn't for you, but if you really like light-hearted stories and so much cuteness and romance you should give this drama a chance.
I really liked your review of this drama, just today I began to see it and I have to say that the first episode left me wanting more. Something I would add is that it is definitely not a drama for all the tastes, I saw that many people feel uncomfortable about certain scenes and the fact that the story revolves around the infidelity if you can say so, but I think if you are willing to watch the history as fiction and not make so much a fuss about it, is definitely enjoyable.
The actors are very a good ensemble, I think that Puff and Jasper Liu make such a great lead couple like in "Love myself or you", in fact that drama was the reason that I started this drama. I'm really looking forward to watch how the whole plot develops.
I'm really upset with the news. One of the main reasons I switched to Dramafever was for the quality of the subs, I used to like Viki very much (I still watch some dramas in their site from time to time) but some of the subtitles are really crappy (Don't get me wrong) I really appreciate the contributors job, but some subtitles in my language (spanish) are so bad that made certain segments of some dramas non understandable. Definitely this is the end of an era and now we can expect for the other streaming sites get the licences that DramaFever owned or the creation of new drama sites.
Very interesting article, I think that method actors really need to take a rest from acting due to all the emotional and physical burden that represents getting into the skin of a character with a difficult background story. Thank you for sharing!
