Yes, I agree. Though it's not possible to completely ignore the novel as it's the source and the adaptions are bound to get compared to it's original, that's not my issue at all. My only issue has always been unnecessarily antagonising TTJ to glorify LSS. I very well understand both of them are grey characters in their own reasons but TTJ's character trajectory was almost flawless in the drama. Though LSS is one of the best Fls in my book, there are few instances where her actions were questionable and seemed "out of her character". If the novel LSS decided to use the nails on him for xyz reason, I find that too small of a reason for her actions in the drama.
I feel they shouldn't be judged or hated for their actions they did in the novel. Like how the same people accepted the drama version of Pian Ran for what she is in the drama. I am all up for the in depth analysis from the novel That still doesn't change the fact that the characters from both the versions are different. They were rewritten from the scratch. For example, the novel TTJ had non consensual kissing and other things with LSS however in drama he always respected her boundary. I initially found the first night between MY and SJ quite problematic considering how he was drunk and how she used that mute spell on him. But then seeing him enjoying their night, I assumed that he had consented lol.
Drama version characters are not whitewashed but are rewritten to meet the standards to pass through the censorship. Whitewashing is when a toxic trait of a character is glorified. Neither drama MY or TTJ were glorified for their bad actions. If anything, they both had amazing character development in the drama. Everyone might not go through the hassle of reading the original novel and will only judge the characters for how they're portrayed in the drama. It's unfair to call the drama characters toxic based on their actions in the novel and vice versa. Makers could have developed LSS character a little better to have avoided this loophole. Maybe her character fell victim to the heavily chopped episodes as well. Whenever drama viewers question LSS's intention and her love for TTJ, few novel readers justified saying how TTJ was toxic in the novel which I find is a bit unfair to the drama version.
If Xixi is selected then it automatically becomes popular ip π€£ But QJM author continuing the novel after a decade of abandoning it sounds so sus. This is the reason I prefer they make original stories like fyh and not novel adaptation.
Funny story: Some antis said they even read the original novel of FYH which doesn't exist π€£
