beautiful, beautifully sad, but also somehow hopeful? ... Well as hopeful as it can be... "Why do we live? Because we don't want to die..." The last scenes where the painting is finished, those hypnotic shots going round and round in the toilet, but especially the finished painting and the last shot with him in it 'completing' the painting leave your mouth open...
Right? Like, he could easily be one of those problematic students in the class, but then who could act opposite him as the psycho teacher? xD It's a good thing they made him an 'art teacher' though, maybe that's more believable haha
currently in a phase where I wanna watch troubled romances with odd couples, melancholy, past traumas etc, so this was really good in that niche.
Though I'd loved to learn more about the girl's past traumas, cause it's her behavior that leaves one confused most and it was my curiosity for her backstory that actually kept me watching. Still their bumpy relationship is worth watching too.
Also, whereas there is a melancholic air to the whole narrative, it's not completely dark, and even ends on a rather positive and hopeful note, which was great.
Any recommendations for movies/serieses with somehow 'off' female characters like here or relationships like here?
wahhhhhhh!!! I hate it when they let young actors play teacher or father kind of roles, so when I first saw the trailer for this I was like come on let sudacchi play young roles as long as he can, also because I don't buy him as a teacher cause he looks so young... but maaaaan, I can't think of any other actor who could have pulled off such a psycho character at this moment then him. Love him in angsty roles, the perfect anti-hero <3 Really looking forward to where this'll go!
I wonder where I can watch this. I'm surprised I can't find such a highly acclaimed movie by such a famous director, whereas I believe a much lesser known movie "Distance" by the same director is available with subs on youtube, and of course his 'newer' movies are available all over the place... Does anyone know a link where I can wathc this? Without subs is fine too
I dled it from an lj-community, so the dvd must be out and maybe subs will surface soon too. If you have an lj-account I can send you the post in a private msg
finally got to watch it today, but was pretty disappointed by Sho's passive and irrelevant role :/ atmosphere and effects were good, but they could have done more with this material Imo
Oh my bad, I posted it before watching it until the end, sorry :( Here's another link, and this time I've spoilt myself peeking at the end, so it should be complete ;) http://www.pandora.tv/view/sbs-tv/56415232/#33941619_new
and btw the English translation of the title is a bit off, and it should be more like "Until the me who was unable to go to school wrote 'anohana' and 'kokosake'".
At the point where she enters the screenplay-world she has already staarted to go to school even live alone in tokyo etc, so it's not like she starts to go to school after writing those anime scripts
