Haunting From Beginning to End
This is a tough one to review. It has so many great twists and turns, all unexpected right up to the very end. The script was well written, and the performances and characters were strong and haunting.
The difficult part for me was that I disliked the lead characters for almost the entire run (with the exception of Xu Qing Li). It was frustrating watching them make one terrible choice after another under the guise of being victims and feeling sorry for themselves, especially when there were plenty of other options. They repeatedly chose the worst paths, and in doing so, destroyed so many lives.
That’s also what made the drama feel so haunting. We’re shown how easily so much of this could have been avoided and how different their lives might have been if they hadn’t made the choices that ultimately destroyed any chance at a happy life.
Overall, I thought this was a strong drama, and I thought the performers pushed themselves to deliver an emotionally impactful narrative. That said, it was a tough one to digest given the nature of the plot.
