Editorials An Occult Mystery With a Campy Streak
I enjoyed this one. I imagine it’s not supposed to be campy, but that’s how I would describe it by 2026, and that’s one of the reasons I enjoyed watching it. There are corpse-eating bugs, zombies, ghosts, and mummies... and none of it is spooky. The characters are offbeat and it makes the script fun, but it also had enough mystery to keep me interested in the main narrative. I especially enjoyed it when the story centered on the occult background of tomb raiding. I was particularly interested when they got into the backstory of the Nine Gates family.
I thought the episode count was perfect for something like this, because it would have lost me if they had dragged it out any further. It was succinct and hit the sweet spot perfectly without wearing out its welcome. While it wasn’t perfect, it was enjoyable overall.
