Editorials A Visually Surreal and Emotionally Rich Watch
I absolutely loved this. I think it is an incredibly dynamic watch that uses all of your senses. For me, those layers worked really well to keep me engaged.
I loved the cinematography and how surreal some of the scenes felt. It matched the plot beautifully, with content that delved into the psychology and philosophy behind how these characters function within their relationships. So much of who they are was shaped by their childhoods and past experiences, many of which were painful, and it was engaging to watch how difficult it could be for them to step outside of those patterns.
It was easy to stay invested in their lives because we were constantly seeing them in their most vulnerable states. Sometimes they were completely transparent, openly expressing thoughts and feelings that they normally kept hidden. Other times, they were much more reticent, struggling to understand or communicate what they were feeling. I really liked that approach because the script, plot, art direction, and soundtrack all supported one another. Everything worked together to draw me into the characters and make me feel involved in what they were experiencing.
And a lot of the subject matter was heavy. As a viewer looking in from the outside, you're able to see how each person contributed to the circumstances they're living in now. No one is necessarily entirely at fault, but everyone is accountable for the things they've done and the consequences that followed. That deeper exploration of baggage, relationships, identity, and accountability is what I took away from this drama, and it's what really moved me.
I loved the framing and the different perspectives it offered on the various stages and types of relationships being depicted, as well as the way each character's arc ultimately played out. This was a very moving watch for me. Because of that, it sits firmly as a top-shelf favorite.
