This was meant to be a romantic comedy, it wasn’t. It was more slice of life. I did enjoy it, great story plot…
This was not advertised as a rom-com though??? Even the synopsis is about the mother and the daughter and their relationship.

Although not perfect, I really liked this drama. I loved the messaging of it:

1. Normalise choosing your own family.
2. Learn to leave the toxic relationships.
3. Learn not to rely on codependent relationships.

I don't understand the hatred towards the ending, because it was perfect for me. The story was about the mother and the daughter and they both had amazing character growth. One learned to accept love and let go and the other learned that she can be alone.

This was never advertised as a rom-com, so no idea where some viewers got the idea that this was a rom-com just because 'romance' is tagged third.

This was a slice of life mother-daughter relationship centric drama.

So please, don't watch this if you want a rom-com. Yes, there is romance, but that is not what the show is about.

I mean yeah, it should've been done a bit better, but it's not horrible, I saw worse.
Yeah, but, when you have dramas like Fight For My Way, Hot Stove League, Twenty Five - Twenty One, Mental Coach Jegal and Racket Boys, the standard of an actor playing an athlete has been raised.

I think the actress would have been more suited for a drama called My Lovely Figure-skater. Her boxing scenes are too delicate tbh.

This show is just insane!!! Pure crazy, over the top humour. As someone who loves the insanity of shows like What We Do In The Shadows, I find this drama great!

After seeing the trailer where the boxer girl is aparently exausted on the floor of the ring with perfect makeup…
Exactly. At least try...
On My Lovely Boxer Aug 22, 2023
The one thing this show doesn't care about... The accuracy of boxing. Very disappointing in that regard when we have shows like Bloodhounds where the training, the boxing choreography and the boxer was believable. Boxing is power, and when you don't see that, it's hard to imagine someone to be a 'genius boxer'. Yes, this is fiction, but surely it could have been implemented better.

That opening scene was so badly done it was like watching a school play.

I hope the rest of the boxing scenes are choreographed by an actual boxer.

Am I the only one who doesn't hate the writers for killing Dojin?I actually like it, you didn't expect it at all…
I think it makes sense if people want to drop it since what carried the drama was the bickering/butting heads/working together dynamic of the two male leads. When you take that out of the equation, a large chunk of what made the show is missing.

I'm so happy that romcoms have gone from Boys Over Flowers to this. Gu Won was a walking green flag and it was a pleasure to watch him.

It wasn't a perfect drama, but they stuck the landing. Besides Business Proposal, this has to be the most positive pure romcom out there. There were no real villains, which was fine with me.

I'm now convinced I will always be a fan of Lee Jun Ho.

Will the last cameo have anything to do with season 2?
Nah. There's no season 2. This cameo is similar to the ending scenes of Hotel Del Luna and One Ordinary Day where a super popular actor shows up like they are going to be the next person the story will revolve around, but really, it's just a fun cameo.

This drama really went downhill with the introduction of the dad. The character and his relationship with Eun…
Probably an unpopular opinion... But I can't help but think that the big twist is going to be that the dad is trash and/or the murderer.

There is just something insincere about him. Can't really put my finger on it.

I can't comment on the Asian parent- child dynamic other than what I see in dramas. The goldfish poop scene was…
I don't think she ever wallowed tbh. Sure, she would have cried, raged etc. But she strikes me as the type to wipe the tears and do what must be done. She would have probably cried within small bursts of moments rather than wallowing in self pity for any extended amount of time. She doesn't deal in emotions, hers and others, and would rather always keep moving forward. I think that contributes as to why she's her a trainwreck as a parent. She doesn't say how she feels, nor is she interested in finding out how her daughter feels. All she cares about is whether something will hinder the daughter's happiness or not.

She is unconventional, for sure. But she's the tough-as-nails type who don't understand people who wallow because she never did. Naturally, she doesn't know how to handle those emotions as a result. That's why her reaction was ,"why didn't you cause a scene and get over it?" If you noticed, she never says how she feels. The only time she showed any vulnerability was in episode 6 and she shook herself out of it. When she wants something, she pretends she doesn't want it. When she appreciates something, she pretends like she doesn't. That is very immature behaviour. Almost like a teenager going through puberty.

The conflict between mother and daughter is amazingly written for me.

Jin Hee became an adult fast because she had an immature mother. She didn't have the kind of mother who soothed her when she was upset or was honest with her feelings. Instead, she had a mother who was raised in an abusive household and didn't know how to process emotion. That made her emotionally neglect her daughter even though she did everything a mother was 'supposed to do' by providing for her and defending her like a mama bear.

Honestly, this is very similar to most Asian parent-child relationships.

The previous generations believed that as long as they put food on the table, their child went to school and they had a roof over their heads, they had done everything needed to raise their child. And to them, they don't understand what more could have been given. If anything, they would see it as an improvement if they didn't do the one thing their parent did which caused them trauma. Eg:- Not beating their child, when they got beaten.

I can't fault either. They are both victims of their circumstance. Even though the daughter is much more in tune with her emotions, the mother honestly has no idea how to handle it.

I think the writer is doing a good job in showing the immaturity of both of Jin Hee's parents. No doubt, Jin Hee has to be the one to parent them. ---- Eldest daughters of Asian households... How accurate is that?

Kind of dropped this after episode 2 because I found it boring, but then Kang Min Hyuk ended up on my tiktok and I'm back solely because his content was hilarious.

Am I watching this purely for him and PGY?

....maybe.

One thing I don't like is how everyone in the police station just act like a bunch of elementary school kids like…
I have to say it is very accurate as to how the average workplace is. Most people who join newly are ostracized from the get-go and over time, and after proving you're "one of them" will they warm up to you.
