Book readers won't be able to answer these questions since these are plot points unique to the kdrama. They've basically taken the character traits of three of the March sisters and created the plot all their own. The Little Women series is a wholesome family-centered book series, but since this show is a thriller, all aspects of it is new.

This is more of an AU version of the March sisters. What if they weren't raised by loving parents in this day and age? But the characters of Meg, Jo and Amy is very obvious, and a refreshing take, for me, at least.

The eldest is Meg (she was a governess in the books). Beth is the one who died and is not represented in this show. I see the similarity with Meg because Meg loved nice things. Her dream was to be rich and live in luxury. She hated her job, but stuck with it for the money. She was also the friendliest one out of the sisters (except for Beth who was the kindest).

Okay, but the directing, cinematography and acting though. Amazing.

I think the rating is going down because so many people tuned in FOR romance (quite a few came here from Business Proposal and they thought it was the same kind of drama). I hope there is no romance in this drama too. It's so much better without it.

Instead of a Student/Teacher relationship, they could have made him an intern at the law firm or a TA at the university . At the end of the day, she grades his papers, which is something they didn't have to add into the story to justify his involvement. It's unnecessary and would have been seen as predatory by most of the viewers had the sexes been switched.

Actually, most of the comments I've seen are from people who were disappointed because they came for the revenge and got romance instead. A lot of people think the romance was not needed, that the two actors had no chemistry and it took away from the revenge plot. I am one of those people. Their relationship would have had more impact as a brother-sister ghost of her past kind of relationship.

Exactly!!! There was no real reason to make a student/teacher relationship a thing.

I'm a revenge drama junkie, and their revenge dramas are good... when they write men. When they write women revenge dramas, it's either Makjang level dramatic where women hate women or they use random romance to try to soften up the female lead. I am yet to come across a female lead revenge drama that is neither.

Meanwhile, dramas like Itaewon Class, Military Prosecutor Doberman, Again My Life, Taxi Driver, Confession, Dr. Prisoner, Vincenzo, Haechi and Lawless Lawyer exist.

I totally agree. I think the biggest gripe people have regarding noona romance is,

a. The age gap is mostly 10+ years.
b. The age gap is used as a hook or major plot point over the original story.
c. The actors get type-casted.
d. There are more 10+ year age gap dramas done by high profile actors than similar age dramas. (Eg:- SHK did Encounter, Now We Are Breaking Up and now, The Glory) - It's obviously done by producers who want 20 somethings to watch for the guy and 30-40 somethings to watch for the relatable "older female character".

Dramas like Romance is a Bonus Book, Alchemy of Souls, The King's Affection, Thirty-Nine, the age gap was the most uninteresting thing in the dramas. Basically, if the dramas were written better, and the writers didn't cop out by making the age gap bigger than what it needed to be, there would probably be less people complaining.

This drama had no balance. The best revenge stories are where the hero wins some, the villain wins some, and then a massive show down at the end. Dramas like Itaewon Class, Again My Life, Military Prosecutor Doberman are some of the dramas that did it better.

Also, the romance was not needed. A female lead can be strong and badass without having a kid younger than her worshiping her lmao. I don't know why they feel the need to "soften" female leads who try to enact revenge with romance when they don't do it with men. And, kdramas need to stop this teacher/student romance thing. It's creepy.

This show wouldn't have lost anything if the romance wasn't there tbh. It seemed a bit obsessive at the beginning. And then it was just... meh. I have no idea why the romance was added when it would have been just the same without it. And I have no idea why they had to make it a teacher/student romance at that. Still confused as to why.

The romance in Goblin and Mr Sunshine made me super uncomfortable because of how problematic it was. I stuck around for the story, but skipped the romance scenes in both. I'll probably do the same here if Lee Do Hyun plays a student and she's his homeroom teacher. I despise student/teacher relationships the most, which is why Melancholia, Why Her? and My Roommate is a Gumiho are all dramas that made me uncomfortable. I watched them for the story, but I feel like I have less and less dramas where I can watch couples where one is not teaching the other. There is some weird teacher/student kink going on in kdramas right now, and I feel like they can make it seem less predatory with a noona romance.

That's because the age gap is not part of the plot. It's all about characters in Alchemy of Souls. Tbh, I wasn't a fan of the age gap in Mr. Sunshine either (it made me super uncomfortable), but that story was epic. Today though, most age gap kdramas use the age gap as a plot device which is tiring, regardless of sex.

The disappointment I felt when I realised that they didn't cast one of Go Eun's previous co-stars for a cameo role as Soonrock is legit!!!
