How is this drama in terms of romance/in general? I'm constantly seeing bits of of the cinematography and it looks…
I would say 80% palace politics, 20% romance. And the romance is 100% angst. If you like lighthearted sageuks like 100 Days My Prince, think of this as the absolute opposite.

The rating on MDL doesn't do justice to how good this drama truly is. One of the best (if not the best) financial dramas I've come across.

Is this drama really similar to moon lovers? I saw that in the recommendation section.
I would say it's more like The Crowned Clown. Heavy with the politics. The romance is not a driving force of the story like Moon Lovers.

Why does Lee Joon acts with tears in his eyes ALL THE TIME??!!!??? At first I thought it was with his love, the…
I think it's the director. I'm honestly not a fan of the direction in this drama at all. I feel like the drama and the shots (especially the ones without any dialog) are too over the top for my taste. I understand the director is trying to put weight behind every scene, but it feels like a way to increase screen time too.

I had no idea when I started this show that I was destined to cry twice a week, consistently.

This show is doing an amazing job of opening up the narrative of how society treats women, those with mental illnesses, and forgets those who are no longer "useful" by society's standards.

I hope those who watch it leave the show with a little more compassion towards others.

I’m happy to see Ji Chang Wook in a complex role after the last two dramas disappointed me. I loved this story. I was sad when it ended.

Okay, so I'm a guy who is not well versed in makeup (I don't wear it myself), so I need to ask this question and…
It's natural makeup. Enough makeup to film, but not enough to change their facial qualities.

I agree yet also disagree with you. Your theory is totally correct realistically but the way they set up these…
I get what you're saying, and I kind of agree and disagree too. I guess, for me, I feel like they spent 15 episodes focusing on the deadbeat dads, the failing relationships, the failing marriages only to fix it without an explanation during the last episode. We never got to see Ki Jun and Yoo Jin work through their marital problems before jumping straight into having a baby ecstatically. We didn't see how Dong Han fixed the relationship with his family when he's constantly an absentee father and husband.

For me, the drama felt like one where they brought out the problems for 15 episodes and then fixed it via time jump, rather than showing characters growing through the issues. This is probably why it was boring for me. I honestly should have dropped it, but I've been so entertained by PMY's other dramas, I kept giving it a chance. LOL.

My main gripe with this show is how blatantly false the conclusion is for almost every character.

1. ALL the deadbeat dads buck up and start pulling their own weight? - Never.
2. A couple who are constantly fighting have a baby to fix their marriage? - Divorce is 100% around the corner.
3. The toxic relationship between a selfish father and a selfless son is suddenly fixed because the father felt bad? - Not going to happen.
4. People becoming best friends with their exes who cheated on them? - Nonsense.

For a show that tried to show realistic relationships, this is a textbook fairy tale fake ending. Dropped my score from 5 to 4 because of it.

Will never recommend.

This show is perfection for me. This drama was never about romance. The writer has been adamant about that since Episode 1. It's about the fleeting passions of youth, and it is exactly how it's portrayed in the show. All we have, after we become adults, are the memories of when everything was simpler in life. The memories that make us sad because we are no longer that carefree or reckless, but they bring a sense of warmth because for one fleeting moment in our lives, we lived the way we lived with unbridled passions for friendship, love and life. It was an age where you felt you can do everything, so look at it with fondness for living through it. Don't be sad that it's over. - And what a beautiful message that is.

10/10 for me.

One thing is for sure, none of the four mains are ready to date let alone get married. It feels like I'm watching two relationship train wrecks.

Also, this show should have been named, "The Tales of the Absentee Fathers and The Families Who Put Up With Them."

I feel like ep10 is all about the burdens women face in marriage - of keeping in-laws happy, of raising children,…
100% agree. That's why you see the woman who has the burden because of marriage saying 'don't get married', while the man who doesn't feel the burden of raising a family saying to other men, 'get married quickly and have children.' - Marriage is a social construct forced on everyone (especially heterosexual relationships) and I like that this show questions it. Why should people get married and have children? Why does society demand it? What does society gain from forcing people to be legally bound to each other?

Anyone know where I can find good subs for episodes 7 & 8?
Replying to MiHnn Feb 24, 2022
This is an accurate representation of my current feelings towards it.
That's a tough one to answer since it depends on your likes/dislikes and mood. Personally, I've been a huge fan of Park Min Young and the dramas she's been in, so I'm giving it a chance right now. I do think episodes 3 & 4 were better than 1 &2. If it gets better by episode 8, I'll probably stick with it.

You would be siding against the critics, rather than with them. The negative reviews are there because the drama…
Do you not watch the news? Do you not know what's happening in the world with anti-vax, anti-abortion movements and their extremism? (And we are talking about countries like Canada, Australia and the US here)

Extremists movements can be found in every single society. Every single country. As far back as genocidal behaviours found in countries like Germany, Rwanda, South Africa etc. to modern day extremists movements like cancel culture. By your standards, we all belong to uneducated societies.

I don't think you realize how much extremists movements today affect things like journalism (eg:- click-bait articles) and politics (eg:-the anti-abortion laws which cause human rights violations). The extremists can and are becoming the majority. Because the extremists are the loudest, the proudest and they listen to no one. Social media has become a catalyst of spreading the word of the loudest extremists, while people jump on the bandwagon of naming and shaming due to woke culture without doing their own research because they saw a comment somewhere and it must be true.

Woke culture and cancel culture is our modern day, global extremist movement. It's universal. And it's not slowing down. It's based off the religion of celebrity worship. And we see it every day.

So, yeah, I find this show pretty accurate.

Because...

The show is a metaphor for extremism. It shows the dark side of extremism. Where a movement can have good intentions in it's inception but due to the flaw of human behaviour, and the need to monetize it, the movement, which started well, becomes this extremist movement that villainize those who don't stand with them.

"If you're not with us, you're against us."

In modern day context:

"If you don't share this post on BLM, you're a racist."
"If you make a racist joke, we will have you fired, share your phone number and address on the internet so you and your family will be bullied."
"You deserve to be cancelled because you made a joke that was insensitive 20 years ago. It doesn't matter that you're a better person now."
Having Covid parties...

We 100% live in an extremist society. And that's why the show is good. It shows what would happen if nearly everyone gives in. If people continue to police others, judge others and their behaviours. Surely, you have seen this happen in this day and age.

How true. The celebrity worship, woke culture, creation of trolls and any extremist movement share the same narrative. That's why so many people got triggered by this show.
