I'm from the UK. We've had at least two decades of Pakistani rape gangs abusing/gang raping tens of thousands…
Yep,. The UK is now officially 'the rape capital of Europe' with Sweden in second place after their successive govts also let in tens of thousands of Third World migrants/illegal migrants who will NEVER assimilate into the culture.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/01/18/nearly-two-thirds-convicted-rapists-sweden-migrants/

And the left-wingers can scream "racist" as much as they want (an accusation most people pay no attention to nowadays anyway), but official statics show the vast majority of the increased # of rapes in most European countries are carried out by men from countries like Pakistan, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Countries where women are treated like second class citizens.

The few European countries who have LOWER reported rape cases are countries like Poland and Hungary. Why? Because their governments refuse to allow illegal immigrants in. So much so, Hungary is paying the EU millions of dollars in 'fines' every month as they refuse to accept illegal immigrants no matter how much the EU pushes them to.

And btw, note, Asian countries are NOT doing this to themselves. So, while much of Europe is systematically committing cultural suicide, Asian countries are protecting their cultures. And even more importantly, their women.

Oh and FYI, I'm not against immigration at all -- I've been an immigrant in 3 countries. I'm just FOR legal immigration and for deporting those immigrants who commit crimes. Immediately.

Successive British governments/ European govts/the EU/Biden and his administration in America etc -- all letting mass numbers of illegal immigrants in so they can earn their votes and remain in power. Huge numbers of immigrants from Third World countries who will NEVER assimilate to the culture they've just moved to.

Meanwhile, none of these predominantly left-wing f*ckers in government give a damn about the people they are supposed to be serving -- ie: the native-born people and the legal immigrants who move to a country and DON'T commit crimes.

And yep, my family emigrated to the U.S. states and we waited over 2 YEARS for our Green Cards before we moved to the country. We didn't just walk across the border and be expected to be allowed to stay. Nor did we commit any crimes when we got there.

What truly anchors this drama is Bai Lu. Her performance is subtle, intelligent, and emotionally layered. She…
Never been a Bai Lu fan (don't hate her, just thought she was a bit bland) but, you're correct, she's superb in this. Loving her in every scene.

It's available legally on YouTube for free. If you watch KissKH, sure, it's a non-legal channel that makes it…
That's odd, it works for me. You're in the U.S. aren't you? I'm currently in the U.S. and have no problem accessing it???? (Could understand it if you were in another country, but the playlist should be accessible anywhere in the U.S.?)

It's a full playlist of the first 23 episodes of the drama.

Try this one for Ep 1 plus the rest of the playlist -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY-oCd0ue1Q&list=PLQqbdnAgoRmbwKdEeiEaP4DgqIw2Qe_iv&index=1&t=217s

or this is the YouTube channel (Channel name is 中剧独播) . You can click on the Playlist section and Born to Be Alive is the 3rd playlist from the top. -

Yep, you're 1,000 percent correct about Labour. They promised the world and went back on every promise they made, and Starmer is a scumbag. The UK is stuck with them for 3 1/2 more years as well. Doubt it will end well. Sadly.

And yep, the BBC and ITV are shit. Haven't watched either for close to a decade, as they lie about everything. BBC used to be incredibly reputable. Not anymore. Anyway, good luck with your studies :), and don't look too deep into the rape scandal. It's horribly depressing :(

Oh btw, I'm from near Manchester too (Accrington/Barnoldswick and went to high school in Skipton) but we left the UK to move to the U.S. and I went to uni in America.

You're welcome :) And I do watch some of the dodgy non-legal sites if I can't find dramas anywhere else, but I'm of the mind that, the more we non-Chinese watch C-dramas legally, the more we will get :)

It's wild isn't it? I have British relatives who hadn't heard about it, because the BBC, ITV etc had been covering it up for so long (so it wasn't always their fault), but it's massive news worldwide. Especially if you spend any time on X, where you get the news that govts all over the world are trying to cover up.

And yet Starmer's government is STILL refusing to hold a proper investigation into it due to desperately needing the Muslim vote to stay in power, so it's taking MP Rupert Lowe and several other non-Labour MPs holding their own private enquiry to get the truth out.

At least that way, what happened to these little girls (now mostly in their 20s and 30s, although some committed suicide because of it) will become public knowledge.

I'm from the UK. We've had at least two decades of Pakistani rape gangs abusing/gang raping tens of thousands…
It happened everywhere in the UK, but specifically in the north of England where I'm originally from. It's been HUGE news for at least the last year, do you not watch much news or is mainstream media suppressing it, as it's all over American news? (I'm not attacking you, I'm asking seriously, as I no longer live in the UK so don't know?)

Here's a relatively recent news story by MSN about it -- https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/world/pakistani-rape-gangs-exploited-children-in-85-areas-in-uk-mps-probe-finds/ar-AA1LmTO0

Conservative estimates are at least 10,000 little British girls gang raped by predominantly Pakistani men for at least the last two to three decades. Some girls were even trafficked overseas, and are still living overseas and now "married" to their abusers. Mainstream media is still pretending it stopped in 2013 but every reputable report coming out says it's still happening.

Several British women are now on X saying they were gang raped by Pakistani men, sometimes for years, and British police departments covered it up because they didn't want to be called "racist". To the extent that, one police dept was called to a flat full of Pakistani men and two naked and drunk British girls (age 13-15 I believe?), and the GIRLS were arrested for being drunk instead of the Pakistani men who were obviously gang raping them.

Horrendous stuff with girls saying they PLEADED with the police to help them, but nobody did. And hard to imagine this is going on in a so-called 'developed country'.

Meanwhile, there's a huge investigation ongoing now by several British MPs as Starmer's government refuses to hold a proper enquiry into it due to Labour needing the Muslim vote in order to be re-elected.

According to a report yesterday, the U.S government now considers Starmer's government as a 'front for pedophiles and rape enablers'. That's how serious this is. To the extent that, the UK is now the laughing stock of most of the world as, apparently, it's fine for Pakistani men to gang rape little girls and nothing will ever be done to most of them (although there HAVE been several court cases recently where groups of Pakistani men have been jailed for upwards of 10 years because of this -- but NOT enough).

Look on X -- it's everywhere, so, of course, Starmer's government is now trying to censor X as he's desperate to hide the truth before the Muslim backlash is so bad Labour doesn't get re-elected (although of course, they'll never get re-elected -- they're the most unpopular govt in British history :)

EDIT: Here is testimony this week from one young woman who, at the age of TWELVE, was trafficked all over the UK and nobody helped her, including police and hospital workers -- https://x.com/RupertLowe10/status/2021320025890578481

Where can I watch with English subs? I am in US and it isn’t on Iqiyi. The other channel doesn’t have all…
It's available legally on YouTube for free. If you watch KissKH, sure, it's a non-legal channel that makes it easy to watch, but it doesn't benefit the actors, the director, the production company or we the viewers when nobody involved in the production makes any money or views because of it.

The more people watch non-legal episodes, the less chance there is we non-Chinese will continue to get new dramas at the same time as they premiere in China.

Here's the link to the legal playlist for every episode released so far -- That way the people involved in the making of the drama benefit :)

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQqbdnAgoRmbwKdEeiEaP4DgqIw2Qe_iv

And not meaning to lecture, it just irks me when people recommend non-legal ways of watching a C-drama when it's accessible legally, and for free.

Every woman's suffering that appears in this drama makes me realize that in modern life where women are starting…
I'm from the UK. We've had at least two decades of Pakistani rape gangs abusing/gang raping tens of thousands of white British girls, some as young as 11 and 12. And yes, the current British government is not only covering it up as, heaven forbid, they lose the Muslim vote, but the abuse of little girls by predominantly Pakistani men is still ongoing.

And this is supposedly in a 'developed country', although it breaks my heart to say the UK is heading quickly towards becoming the Third World, sadly.

So no, things haven't changed much for hundreds of millions of women and girls. Even in the modern day, and even several thousand years after what went on in China and other countries back then.

The Chinese did not like it any more than non-Chinese did, as it's awarded a very low 6.1 on Douban, meaning 'barely…
You don't seem to understand Douban scores. Here, I'll help.

A 6.1 score has barely made it into the 6-6.9 bracket, so it's at the very low end of 'passable', as I said 'barely watchable'. Or is English not your strong point either?

And here are the categories of Douban scores, to give you a better idea of how poorly this one performed -

Below 5.0 (不及格 - Failed): Universally panned. It could be technically incompetent, morally offensive, or an outright scam.

5.0 - 5.9 (平庸 - Mediocre): A close to failing grade. Signifies major flaws in story, acting, or direction. It's watchable only for die-hard fans of the genre/actor.

6.0 - 6.9 (及格/尚可 - Passable): The most common range for average commercial films/dramas that are nothing special. You get what you pay for, ie: a standard generic film/drama. The higher up this bracket a film/drama gets, the more watchable it is.

7.0 - 7.9 (良好/推荐 - Recommended): Suggests solid quality, well-crafted storytelling, and above-average execution. A score in this range means it's recommended within its genre.

8.0 - 8.9 (优秀/强力推荐 - Highly Recommended): Reserved for outstanding works. Films/dramas with critical acclaim, cultural impact, or masterful artistry.

9.0 and Above (神作/经典 - Masterpiece: This milestone every director aims for. These are landmark films/dramas that have stood the test of time, revolutionized genres, or achieved near-perfect consensus on their quality. Few ever make this bracket.

So, no, no director, actor, screenwriter, production company is happy with a 6.1. It indicates "meh" and a drama that is so unmemorable you could skip it and not be missing much.

Swords Into Plowshares that is airing right now actually has some very decent emperors.
I just could not get into that one at all. It was THE drama I was looking forward to this year but, after the first episode hurt my head there were so many people introduced in it, I gave up :)

It's on my list to go back to at some point, but it will have to be when I have time to rewind scenes about 4 times each to figure out who is who :)

I think MDL should at least leave the user ID of the person deleting the comment visible, as that might at least make some people a little more likely to think twice before spouting off :).

I mean, I was deliberately not mentioning the character's name or the episode so as not to spoil it for others (although it's not much of a spoil as it's so obvious), but to jump to the conclusion I was talking about Li Pei Yi when nowhere has it ever been suggested people thought she was a man is silly.

Heck, we all make mistakes. But most of us just apologize for being an ass and move on. Apparently some think slinking off is the best solution :)

The character is in Episodes 11 and 12. And nowhere did I ever mention Li PeiYi. I'd say YOU probably need to watch the drama. Instead of mouthing off with ignorance.

EDIT: And why do these fools immediately delete their comment when it's pointed out they're wrong? At least, if you're going to mouth off and ignorantly accuse people of doing something they're not doing, OWN YOUR COMMENT, and don't be such a coward about it.

Yep, I have a feeling though even back in the Tang Dynasty a lot of these so-called 'men' in these modern C-dramas would quickly be outed as women :) Full lips, fine pore-free skin, thinner skin, narrow jawlines and delicate features. And then we're supposed to believe the main characters 'discovered' they were women when the audience can tell from the first 2 seconds they're on screen :).

Sure, it's possible a man could have one or two more female-like features, but not all of their features being female-like. Doing better in casting the character would go a long way to maintaining the 'surprise'.

And I do think it's where western dramas tend to do better at this kind of thing. Look at the Oscar-winning film The Crying Game. While I guessed a few minutes into that what 'the secret' was, most people were apparently very shocked.

If that had been a C-drama, 95% of the audience would have not had such an interesting/surprising experience :)

Two of the Ming dynasty emperors in Royal Feast were shown to be compassionate and caring for the people
Was actually thinking about Zhu Gaochi, as he had stuck in my mind due to him being such a short lived emperor. I learned about him recently on a podcast -- possibly Chris Stewart's The History of China (?) sorry, can't remember as I listen to a few of them.

And his son too. A decent emperor but, again, relatively short lived while the useless emperors seemed to go on forever.

Always seems like the poor Chinese ended up with a good emperor, only to have them died young and almost always be superseded by one who quickly undid all the good things the previous emperor had achieved.

Guess it's not too difficult to see why the Chinese aren't too quick to want to go back to the rule of the Emperor. Tens to hundreds of millions of them died under such rule. :)

Have Love Like the Galaxy on my list to watch. Good to know I'm not going to have to suffer thru yet another Emperor you want to kill :) And, I'm about 6 episodes in to Story of Kunning Palace. Don't remember the Emperor? Will have to check.

Thanks for the heads up :)

And seriously, how much do the Chinese detest their emperors? I must have watched 20 C-dramas over the last few months where EVERY. SINGLE. EMPEROR. is a complete scumbag.

The country had more than 300 of them, and I'm struggling to remember any C-drama that features an emperor with morals. Anyone?
