Eun Jung is dependable, she doesn’t need her toxic « friend », everything is good in her life - loving mom, boyfriend, work she likes. SY ruins her relationship with boyfriend, her career, etc - and despite all this Eun Jung decides to inflict enormous emotional pain on herself by accompanying SY and staying with her until the end? Her colleague was right - you are never the same after such experience. But we are supposed to believe that this was what Eun Jung wanted. Writer didn’t bother to give even a small positive side to SY so at least we could say - ok, I can understand Eun Jung, SY deserves all this effort. But she has absolutely no positive human side, and it is not credible. The writer just made us accept that in life there are poisonous relationships from which you cannot get out which you should for some unconvincing reason accept and which can follow you all your life. That is an interesting subject. From what I know, in the 1980ties police in Korea had a lot of freedom, they could charge people without evidence, they used force to get a confession etc. it came to the point when society decided that it needs to be reformed. If you like legal dramas try Juvenile Justice, it’s on Netflix. It’s super good. Also, Good Partner is on a lighter side but quite original too - smart, but easy to watch.

If ever they make Apothecary Diaries into drama, she should play Maomao. She would be a perfect Maomao.
