dropped at episode 13. i tried but too bored to continue.
pros: - the acting is pretty good - the premise of the story was promising - nice set and costumes
cons: - no chemistry between the leads. i couldn’t feel anything for their romance. as i said, the acting was good. i don’t know how to explain it bc eleanor conveyed all the emotions well but not the romance for the crown prince. i don’t think she suited this role at all. there was not even friendship chemistry between the pair. - story was so boring. i skipped from like episode 3. none of the side characters or even the main plot interested me. was not even interesting enough to be a background show. - cinematography wise, the thin black borders annoyed me, why was it so restricted? also they never turned down the darn skin softening filter. some scenes, they looked like a blob.
overall, 4.5/10. normally these shows are my cup of tea so this was very disappointing. i can see why people would like it because it wasn’t terrible. i won’t be picking this one up later on down the line either.
it’s okay. something nice and short, leads have good chemistry. yakisa is particularly cute! since it’s only 4 episodes on youtube, do give it a quick watch!
pros: - easy storyline, nice and fast paced in the last 10 episodes. - cute fluffy moments between the leads - leads are very loyal to each other in the later half!! there are second leads but like they don’t cause too much trouble for the mains after a while. - the wu ji and ling couple are the cutest <3 - HYX is quite possibly one of the most beautiful chinese actresses out there.
cons: - very obviously low budget. the costumes and makeup was sometimes a bit jarring. it’s not unwatchable though. - draggy on the middle, i skipped loads. defo could have just done with 24 eps. - ML was so abusive to FL in the first half, nearly ruined their chemistry for me. - it’s nothing spectacular, like it’s an okay drama. i wouldn’t watch again but if you need something to pass time, or like a wind down drama because you have withdrawals from another one, this one is good.
looking forward to HYX’s future dramas! and the guy that played Wu Ji defo needs a ML role soon.... ;)
kind of hoping for a new cast for this ngl SF and XJ already got their happy ending, i don’t think they need to complicate things anymore. they literally has 59 eps of misunderstandings. would love to see another 59 eps of misunderstandings from another couple instead lol one of the comments mentioned a story similar to LaR but the FL suffers instead. would actually love to watch that!
okay i just finished this so i want to post a comment before i post a longer review later. this was a pain to get through, i so nearly dropped it halfway bc i felt no attachment to the characters and found the push and pull so futile.
luckily, the flying snake appeared just at the right time and boy oh boy, that character CARRIED this drama on his back. i love his character so much! i only continued bc of him and i’m glad i did. the story does improve from then onwards even if i still had to skip massive chunks of it (is it even a wuxia if you don’t skip? lol). the acting was top class, chemistry was good and i am so blown away by the whole cast. the visuals of this cast too..... immaculate. the last 10 episodes were AMAZING, if the whole drama was like that, it would be a definite 10/10. certainly did cry a bit in those episodes.
overall, 8/10. i have some nitpicky things about the character and plot but it’s not a dealbreaker. i do think this drama is slightly overrated (or maybe i went in with my expectations too high from all the reviews?) but this certainly satisfied me as a wuxia lover! highly recommend but do get ready to use that skip button :D
Well is Esther,I can't really picture her in something serious she has been typecasted and she does it good tho..
that’s a bit jarring, i think she defo has potential for a serious toned drama! hopefully she can get more of a variety of castings as she becomes more popular :)
been a while since i finished this but i gotta say that the fengjiu and donghua couple really took the spotlight for me in this drama! defo recommend eternal love of dream!
