a nice and relaxing watch. full of cute and fluffy scenes and satisfied my love of height difference couples in cdramas. i love university campus romance so this is a good watch if you like them too! also i recommend this if you are looking for a stress-free cooldown watch after a long or intense drama.
acting was good. aaron deng was a bit stiff at times but he’s got potential and i will look forward to seeing him improve in future projects. ireine did an amazing job and does not look a day over 16! her character in this was a bit odd though, always flailing about.
the story was a bit nonexistent. presented a lot of subplots and then never developed them or gets solved. nothing major if you don’t go in expecting a riveting plot with lots of turns because that’s not what this drama is. very much just romance and that’s it which is great if you love romance! although, there were some parts of their relationship that made me go ://///
overall, i do recommend this and it’s worth a watch for sure :))
was gonna not watch this drama because of how terrible it sounded in the comments lol but i’m so glad i went…
the whole ‘it was all a dream trope’ makes the whole drama so pointless. i hate it so much and was so disappointed that it ended on that note. since they do want to make an s2, i guess that was a way for them to bring it to the modern world (would have liked for it to stay in the ancient setting though....). i really hope s2 isn’t a whole new set of personalities introduced. if it turns out the whole drama SJ dreamt about was her past life with the modern CXM then i can accept that. but if season 2 goes off the rails and turns into a generic office romance or smth.... would be very disappointing considering how good s1 is.
was gonna not watch this drama because of how terrible it sounded in the comments lol but i’m so glad i went through with it. such a cute, smooth sailing drama! i am so such a sucker for ‘hard faced on the battlefield but soft in their wife’s arms’ military generals. fantastic chemistry between TM and Caesar. Caesar has truly grown since Meteor Garden (and he looks so freaking good in costume). will anticipate both their future projects (incl. s2 of this drama hehe). the FL was not as bad as i thought she’d be, i’m glad she had such a personality and stood her ground on things. it’s rare to have a charismatic FL who isn’t swallowed up by the society women lived in in that time. the story as a whole was entertaining and i enjoyed how quickly misunderstandings were solved!
knocked off 2 points because of the ending. i can see why they did that (to set it up for season 2) but also. not a fan. i’ll put the details in a spoiler.
overall, defo worth a watch!! don’t get put off by the comments. you’re in for a treat full of fluffy romance and kisses <3
originally dropped this last year but picked it up again this year and stuck it out for ZXC.
I am a big fan of the anime and yeah..... this fell flat as an adaptation. Boring and dragged on. The romance was nice though. FL was annoying as she literally acted like a child, whining and moaning like she is 3 years old and spoke like a baby too. I don’t think this is Jelly’s fault, but the way the directors had attempted to translate Nodame’s character into this drama (although, Jelly’s acting was not top notch either). Her outfits were really nice in this though. ZXC did a good job as LZY (and it is cool he actually plays the piano!) but goddamn, they aged my guy 20 years with that hairstyle LOL
The camera work is like an american sitcom (strangely resembling The Office), random and dramatic zoom ins, shaking camera like it was a vlog. Not sure what the directors were going for but not a fan. Overall, an alright watch if you treat it as if it was a standalone drama and not an adaptation of Nodame Cantabile. Drama was nothing groundbreaking but nothing terrible either. 5/10.
it has literally been years since i’ve finished this and the ending still enrages me. the way it literally ended the second he confessed to her. daylight robbery lol
jelly is listed as cast? hm she’s alright but i hope she’s not the FL. i kind of want to see a better lead actress since it’s such a well-loved series... anyways, waiting patiently for this! i hope it’s a proper drama and not smth like the yanxi palace sequel thing ://
Not sure if I should watch this drama, mainly because it is 41 episodes and I am only watching because of the…
1. yes. main leads end up together. a happy ending! 2. he isn’t as mean to her as naoki is to kotoko. but he is dismissive, gritty and finds her a nuisance at first since there is an age gap between them and she followed him around (FL does give me kotoko vibes!). he didn’t care about romance until he realised he had fallen for the FL. so he is not the verbally aggressive tsundere male lead that is often depicted in anime, but is a hard exterior tsundere nonetheless.
i think it’s defo worth the watch! it was heartwarming to see how the ML warms up to FL. i loved it :)
also what the hell was that lightning scene at the end. It was like the directors remembered they didn’t have defibrillators back in those days so had to go with whatever that was.
Don’t understand how this drama has a 8.1 rating. It was terrible. Was expecting so much more of ZZH and JJY coupling because they had built up a following from LoYX, but not even good chemistry can save whatever this drama is lol Stuck it out until the end for the ML, he treated the FL so well. And then the FL was all over the place.
Everything was going so well until episode 20. The story was completed lost after that. Not only was the script bad but the editing was odd. Overall, a disappointment, 4/10.
I do hope to see ZZH in more historical dramas, he looks so good in costume dramas haha and JJY’s (dubbed?) voice is lovely as well!
without a doubt, she’s a beauty. currently watching ruyi and finding her acting a bit stiff (was hoping to see some improvements since legend of white snake which i dropped because of no chemistry between the leads). i’m starting to think it’s because she seems to have incredibly emotionless and empty eyes. other than that, she has good chemistry with ZZH so looking forward to continuing ruyi! :)
an amazing and moving drama. expected nothing less of the same writers as AOL. ZXC and WQ were casted perfectly in their roles, such an amazing pair of actors with sizzling chemistry (the whole cast was brill too!!) i look forward to both their future projects :) cried a couple of times because of how courageous the characters were when faced with difficulty. it’s not simply a sports drama, so much more than that. i will admit 40 episodes for this was a bit much as everyone has said, but it’s not a dealbreaker. was a teeny bit draggy in the middle but i enjoyed the couple moments so could push through and skip some side parts. even though it was a bit long, i can see they did that to accommodate the side couples and i am glad they took time to develop their stories rather than leave storylines hanging at the end. so i have nothing to complain about. overall, don’t get put off by the length! it is worth all your time :))
even if the directors want to, highly unlikely they’ll get the leads from SIL and AOL back for this drama for many reasons but goddamn, would it be the absolute dream and a triumphant, satisfying end to this trilogy!!
I’m thinking of watching this drama but would like some clarification on the plot. So it is a male in the queen’s body and so ‘he’ falls in love with the male lead? Is this a BL? i’m happy to be spoiled! :)
it’s a nice drama to watch. leads have amazing chemistry (nice kisses hahaha) but found the story got a bit stale after they got together near the middle. luckily, the pace picked up again near the end. overall, lovely drama and engaging characters. would recommend for people looking for something light hearted.
lovely, light hearted and romantic story. no misunderstanding between the main couple lasted too long so that was refreshing to see in chinese dramas. it was also nice that the FL wasn’t so in love with the ML where it was her only personality trait, it was lovely that she was head over heels in love with the ML but retained her own ambitions (something that is also rare in chinese dramas lol) the main couple’s chemistry is amazing too. i really we hope can see them in another project together :)
the only things i’ll nitpick about is the set and sometimes the mystery element of the drama. the aesthetics, costumes and colour palette of the drama was beautiful but the blocky set sometimes threw me off. the crime investigation element of the drama is a little weak and sometimes the comedic tone with the murders were a bit odd. nothing too major as long as you don’t go into the drama wanting lots of mystery. overall, very much recommended for a stress-free watch with lots of laughter along the way.
