I couldn't agree more✨. These flashbacks show us little by little about how devastated he was when he realised he'll soon lose his saviour and family. He did everything he could to save Fang Zhou's life, and even when Fang Zhou's gone, he still held onto the hope of bringing his senior brother back. Liu Yan loves Fang Zhou, too, and was saved by him just like Tang Li Ci. What turned him into the person he is now can't only be because of what he saw at ZhouDiLou (just my opinion). Also, what differentiates between the two men is the level of obsession and patience, imo. Or maybe due to other additional external factors, especially in Liu Yan's case.
