Both put their sexuality and their love aside, and then married women.Birdy's wife suffered because of Birdy's…
Additionally, the story is inspired by the director of this movie.
In May 2019, same sex marriage was legalized in Taiwan.
I read an interesting article, here is what the director said at this time: “When I saw people celebrating on the streets, I actually felt a little bit sorrowful because for the people from my generation—who were born in the ‘70s, for example—it may be too late for them,” he says. Many were not able to catch what he calls the “train of happiness.”
“I would like to highlight some of the unfortunate stories that may have come too early so they didn’t get to see the celebration that we see today,” Liu explains about his approach to his work. Your Name Engraved Herein captures this sentiment. More than any other factor, the prevailing attitudes of 1980s Taiwan threaten to keep A-Han and Birdy apart.
Liu’s film honors one particular figure who has fought for gay rights for more than 30 years: activist Chi Chia-wei. In one scene, A-Han and Birdy see Chi protesting against sexual orientation discrimination on the streets of Taipei with a sign that says “homosexuality is not a disease,” before police swarm toward him.
“We wanted to put that segment into the film to pay tribute to what he has done all these years,” Liu says. In fact, he says the production crew met with Chi lao-shi—Liu uses the honorific term referring to a teacher—and discussed his portrayal in the movie. One of Chi’s iconic protest looks was an outfit made of condoms, and this is the attire he’s wearing when A-Han and Birdy see him. “Our costume designer simply replicated the outfit,” Liu said, “and the character actually protested on the site where he protested in the past.”
Both put their sexuality and their love aside, and then married women.
Birdy's wife suffered because of Birdy's closeted sexuality all these years they could never be happy even with marriage and children. Now they are divorced. And she regrets her life. Conclusion here: you cannot force a gay to marry a woman for the sake of it, it only turns into unhappiness.
Both ML meet in this era, after spending/wasting their life according to/because of the social norms. Back then, it was impossible for 2 men to be together, you could see it in the movie. Gays were persecuted, and other gays remained closeted. At some point you can see a gay man protesting for gay rights, but he is quickly arrested by law enforcers. Living the gay life seems impossible.
In present time, you can see gay bars, and gays kissing in broad daylight. Jiahan says that if they were from this era, they could be happy together. Because now it is acceptable for 2 men to be together. Gays are free and respected.
The ending is them starting over, they are the same as before. The song they sing is the song Jiahan used to confess his feelings to Birdy back then on the phone. They can finally be in love!
I think they became friends by discussing their issues, I mean it's easier for Jiahan to talk about it with a stranger, and that old man seems to have been closeted all these years as well so.. I think they both tried to have sex for many reasons: the experience, to see if they are really gay, to compensate for the ones they can't embrace, to forget about the unhappiness... That's why Jiahan was up to this at first but then he couldn't go further and pushed the old man away. He only loves Birdy. He couldn't have sex with that girl, nor with the old man, and he was so uncomfortable with them... but then he did what he did to Birdy in the shower scene so naturally.
First YOU MUST KNOW this drama is like 2 stories: - ep1-7: Payu and Rain - ep7-13: Pai and Sky
Also, if you want, you could watch one without having to watch the other one, stories are really not related
Payu & Rain Their story was starting good, I loved the tension and the bickering, the taming but then it turned out so cringey, the second-hand embarassement of the sex scenes got me to almost drop it after ep6. I couldn't bear it I had just finished watching Kinnporsche and the comparison made it even worse. Overall, this couple didn't look great, idk the chemistry was lacking, Rain's acting was lacking or smth, a disappointement. 7/10
Pai & Sky Anyway I decided to continue watching 2 months thanks to a gifset of the secondary couple which hadn't been introduced yet. So late-ep 7 the drama just drops the 1st couple and focus on the 2nd couple. It was a surprise, I didn't expect such execution! Here begins a masterpiece, I LOVED their story. Everything about this was beautiful, romantic, cute, healing... The chemistry, the kisses, the overcoming of trauma,.. I would shamelessly recommend to watch only this part of the drama. the 1st couple appears here and there, their scenes are always related to the 2nd couple, and brings a fun twist to the story (along with the cringe) 10/10
Oh i used to watch her reactions on youtube, loved watching her vibe to girlgroups Anyway i haven't watched her for a while i didn't know she is/was transitioning Seeing her on this site + learning about this is such a surprise! I will watch her mini movies!
He avoid answering the military service question -> As there is women there, and to engage in military service…
Some also pointed out that he might have done civil service, which would not have suited the conversation either - they even suggested he was a Marine aka the top of army...
As for the compassion, i think it is part of his nature and the way he fell for Wooyoung seemed also quite natural Afterwards, they might date later on and only then we will learn more about his secrets smh some challenges for them to overcome together
Please season 2!! there is definitely plot possibilities like their modern romance as actor and screenwriter and whatever can happen.. or the couple is having trouble due to Mr Han being an actor and so on, they are about to break up or smth and in parallel she starts working in a new plot and they just get drawn into it but this time he is also aware so they have to team up and eventually they get back together stronger than ever!! Haha I want to see this now :( or whatever I'm in!!!
Is there romance in this drama? If yes, can someone tell me who falls first? If its female lead or male lead?
Well the antagonist has feelings for ML, if that can pick your interest There is also romance between the young judge and his childhood policer friend => female chases after male
