I see everyone calling this a "melodrama" and it has that tag as well. Does anyone even know what a melodrama…
I don't know what the textbook definition of a melodrama is but to me it's something overblown like a Lakron, soap opera, or a comedy that suspends belief in a major way and makes zero real-life sense. This show, based off ep 1, is not that at all. It gives me mature, mellow-ish, slice of life drama vibes.
I loved the first episode. Mature content with tons of intricacies. Especially the scene of Korean teacher agreeing…
The hagwon exploitation bit kind of went over my head, but I did sense the tension between the school teacher and our FL. I thought it was just regular job or status competition. Not really getting the deeper implications. Can you explain it to me? Only if you don't mind ofc!
Why does this have "ex-lover relationship" and "exes reuniting" as tags? From what I can tell the leads did NOT have a romantic relationship when they were teacher-student. What's up???
Thinking if I should read the novel… can someone tell me how similar it is till now? And what are the most diverging…
The show is very true to the novel. One point of divergence is that in the book Mings sister is awful and in the show she’s a sweetheart. Also, the book is more emotional since the author tells you exactly what the characters feel while the show can’t fully reach that depth.
I also read the novel. I like them both equally. The show does a phenomenal job of bringing the novel to life. I also like some of the changes the show made, like Ming’s sister being a sweetheart. In the novel she was horrible.
I love the pacing of the show! But if episode 4 deals with the accident and episode 5 brings us back to the present time, I wonder how they’ll fill up all 12 full episodes. Seems like too little content. 🤔 I’m also loving Ming’s sister!! So glad she’s changed from the novel version.
Fair warning people. If you read the book then you know this already, but...You'll want to slap Ming before all is over, but Tong? ...You'll want to kill that man...slowly.... painfully....lmao
