His has been going on for a few eps but I don't get it.. Why did they switch their assistants?
the official reason they gave is so that shj, who is a new royal, would have an aide who is experienced and knowledgeable on the royal duties and palace issues she'll need to navigate as his new wife.
"He still never treated her badly" I feel like you may have missed their dynamic in the first half of…
you're absolutely correct that he's mediocre. without his wife, he wouldn't even be that much.
but i still maintain my original point that it was hj, due to her father's attitude, who made everything a competition between them and constantly rubbed it in his nose that she was better than him. i understand why she did it. but his "elitist" attitutude was a response, in essence, the only thing he could claim to best her at.
based on his personality and history, he doesn't take anything seriously. he wouldn't have been interested in competing with her, working hard to beat her, of his own initiative.
the only one thing i'll give him credit for, which was the point of my orig post, is that he has never once, in all their competition and bickering, brought up his mother or blamed hj for her loss. this is especially meaningful to me, since their father, from when hj joined their home, has always held that against her.

your points are valid. but i wasn't really focused on how capable her brother is or isn't. i was just pointing out that from childhood on, due to her father's attitude, she has taken everything regarding her brother as a pesonal competition. he only ever responded in return. left to his own devices, he'd have been an indifferent brother, or an indulgent one, depending on how she treated him. the only thing i'll give him credit for, like i wrote in my op, is that he has never once blamed her for the loss of his mother, and he could have quite easily based on his father's attitude and raising.
"He still never treated her badly" I feel like you may have missed their dynamic in the first half of…
more like he gave her back what she dished out, but never as meanly as her, and only bc she started it lol. i truly beleive if she hadn't gotten it into her head that she needs to compete with him for everything, not her fault it's their dad but whatever, then he never wouldve been the one to start any rivlary with her in the first place. also, whever she's asked him for help he's given it, right from the start, when she needed to trace whoever tampered with her car.
i have to give credit to hj's brother. he has never once blamed her for being the catalyst behind his mother's death, while their father has, modeling that behavior for him from when he was young. plus she's always been in fierce competition with him, rubbing it in nose whenver she did better. he still never treated her badly tho. absolutely incredible of him.
The pm is more evil than I thought, unelss he's playing a long game which we can't see yet and is actually tilting the field in Ian's favor. We'll see...
Who is the woman the qm hid?
Poor baby king....give him all the hugs.
And, finally, the qm is an idiot. That call to her father was absolutely unneccessary. She should have come clean to Ian, gave up her murderous father, and thrown herself on his mercy. Yes, she'd have lost her qm status but she's losing that regardless. At least she'll get to retire on his good side, keeping Ian safe, and regaining some of her sold soul. After this latest stunt of Inpyeong's, which the qm did nothing to prevent, and actually helped to make happen being the useful idiot she is, she'll have really blown all her chances. Not that Ian will ever go after her bc of his nephew but still...
So you're telling me the PM, who has been a hard-working, honorable man his entire life who cares deeply about…
Yup. It's not in his character and I have no idea why the writers chose this route.
Also, he shot himself in the foot.
Ian will 100% find out who did this. He has the tenacity and the reason, bc his feelings for hj have been real from nearly the start. The pm knows both of these facts.
The pm offered to marry her before she married ian and she rejected him; he knows that too.
so!
he should have waited for the three years. if hj hadn't caught feelings yet and divorced ian then ian and him could've worked public opionion in a way to make it okay for him to marry her, and he could've pursued her honestly.
otoh, if hj would have stayed married, catching feelings for ian, which is the pm's biggets fear, then he would have been left out cold. but it's all moot atp bc she rejected him; she does have feelings for ian; and she's about to find out what he did to both her and the man she loves.
too bad, he could have stayed her friend, bided his time in the wings.
but no.
he had to wreck it all.
his friendship with hj, any chance with hj, his friendship with ian, his integrity, and, once everything comes to light, his career, reputation, and maybe freedom.
Are there any theories about the king or his father having heart illness?
I-An mentioned taking that heart med which nearly overdosed him. The late king was ready to give Ian the throne, bypassing his own son, telling his wife "it's better than dying."
I always took that for hyperbole, but now...
Then ther was that scene where Ian confronted his brother before his wedding and told him essentially "if you do this, then on your head be it."
Is there a heart condition in the royal family? That the late king had, and passed down to his son potentially, but in Ian is only minor? A condition that would flare up under the stress of being king and be potentially fatal?
Hmm..........all these episodes in and there is absolutely nothing she's done to warrant the amount of affection…
he fell for her outspoken and brave personality back in school, as well as her drive to succeed whenever ppl and circumstances tried to shove her down. it resonated with him then, and now.
you're also incorrect. she has done for him, to the best of her ability, as circumstances allow. for instance, she's the one who dragged him away from the queen mother and comforted him when the qm attacked him. she's also the one who told him to stand up and fight, when he was ready to give up the engagment, and perhaps even his plans to retake the throne, after the car crash. she is supporting him, defending him, giving him a fresh lease on life. that's why he continues to be devoted to her.
it's gonna be tearjerker, i fear. we're all rooting for ian, but everyone, including ian, loves that little boy. it's always the innocent kids who suffer for the parents' misdeeds...
also, i kept seeing on social media that steve noh said on a variety show that somene dies? did i miss something? who died?
we didn't see a full ending like with qm's father.
"dastardly" indeed.

is it a happy ending?
also, if anyone read the novel, can you pls spoil the ending?
thank you!

We're about to go end Idiot Inpyeong, QM, and the PM for good measure.
you're also incorrect. she has done for him, to the best of her ability, as circumstances allow. for instance, she's the one who dragged him away from the queen mother and comforted him when the qm attacked him. she's also the one who told him to stand up and fight, when he was ready to give up the engagment, and perhaps even his plans to retake the throne, after the car crash. she is supporting him, defending him, giving him a fresh lease on life. that's why he continues to be devoted to her.
"off with their heads"
nobody dare touch ian
we're all rooting for ian, but everyone, including ian, loves that little boy.
it's always the innocent kids who suffer for the parents' misdeeds...
