I think some things that were left out in the novel v series:1. In the novel, players entered the game because…
Just as a note, the novel's main 3 organizations are mentioned by name in the book: Obsidian, White Deer, and White Bear are all canon novel names. (well, White Bear barely counts as "main" but it matters insomuch that it's Bai Ming's so it's brought up a few times)
I think the drama did decently with what they had to work around + clear budget restrictions, but I'm mourning all the changes and cuts all the same. I went in knowing the BL would be censored (pleasantly surprised by how much they managed to keep there!), and I can understand changing it to a game to please censorship (even tho for some reason they had to cook up a big-bad that doesn't exist in the novel), but changing the door plots wasn't something I always loved. I know they couldn't go all-in with the horror (it was a gore-fest in the novel), but some doors were barely recognizable from the original. It's strange to me lol like the drama is half right? but not right. Even the deaths were different. It's a softer version of the novel in every aspect.
there's no way the director in the drama actually thought at first that cutting the kiss scene would be a good idea for the characters lol like that's a fast-track way to disappoint the fans of the manga. i know the decision to cut it was for plot reasons sake (this drama plot not the drama's drama lol) but still dfjkgh??
"i'm youngho's mom and i'm also your dad's wife" LMAOOO I just started episode 6 and this is hilarious. messy…
the ending was weird in trying to make it feel almost.... sentimental when they were buried together with the incest-family photo... "family... they're family" eugh
This was so sweet! I do think it's a shame it was only given 15min-ish an episode because with more time we'd be able to expand on the characters, that'd be nice because I found them interesting, but I enjoyed it. They were able to tell a nice love story.
That's the whole point, at least for the mother. She's not trying to get justice or get them to own up to their…
I know those are her real motivations, but it's still annoying to me. She's mad nobody took responsibility, and says she and her husband wanted to show the class what they did to Se Eun, but they're also repressing their memories every time, keeping them from properly reflecting on their actions. She keeps resetting them, keeping from truly understanding what they did, even though she says she wants them to understand (and feel her pain). Maybe this reasoning would be less frustrating if the show brought their memories of Se Eun back sooner, giving them time to actually live with the understanding that their actions brought them there and be tortured by that.
I'm not talking about the other classmates, I'm talking about the fact that the mother is holding EVERYONE accountable, right down to Yun Seo who didn't know a thing! Not just the bullies and bystanders, but Yun Seo who said herself that she didn't know it was happening until it was too late! But by the mother's logic her ignorance was just as bad as the bullying so she deserves to be tortured too. I know she's not in the best frame of mind, but by her logic she and her husband are just as guilty as Yun Seo then, because they also didn't know what was going on with Se Eun. They also failed to save her. Her justifications frustrated me. At least make Yun Seo a bystander or something then, writers... someone who didn't stick up for her if the show wants to communicate "watching bullying happen and not doing anything is bad too".
Expecting them to take responsibility for what they did while wiping their memories of Se Eun every time.... is wild. You hide the reason they're suffering and reset them every round but still expect them to change? To fess up? More like you know they won't and will just keep torturing them until you get caught (because time may pass faster in the game but real world time is still progressing, eventually people will realize that an entire class is missing).
Also, adults blaming the entire group of teenagers right down to the ones who didn't know?? Weird logic and I hate collective punishment. They say Yun Seo is just as guilty as the bullies because she didn't know and didn't save Se Eun, but then what about them? Did THEY know what was going on at school? Based on their logic the parents are just as responsible for their daughter's death because they also failed to realize what was going on, same as Yun Seo...
The flow was definitely messy at times, but the drama was generally good for something that only had 2 minutes per episode to tell a revenge story. Interesting pull between all the characters, stifled by time.
it's frustrating when i notice netflix subs aren't accurately translating some lines lol... right from the beginning…
that being said the drama is really fun! i love the dynamic between the 2 of them already, i'm glad to finally be starting this~ idk if i'll continue on netflix or switch to the fansub but either way looking forward to the rest of the drama
