Title MIU404
it's frustrating when i notice netflix subs aren't accurately translating some lines lol... right from the beginning of ep 1: "kono yarou"/"bastard" and netflix goes "that's it", "baka baka baka" and netflix goes "no no no", "abunai darou!"/"that was dangerous!" and netflix says "what the hell was that?!"
What an engrossing documentary! I didn't know fully what to expect, but once it started I couldn't look away. Really loved seeing all the work that goes into kabuki - and even learn some terms! I really enjoyed learning more about this aspect of Japanese culture. I've never seen Ikuta Toma in anything before this, but now I'm quite interested in seeing what else he can do! I really respect the hard work and dedication he brought to his performance. He respected the craft and worked hard with the troupe to make an amazing final product.

When it comes to plot and characters this one is the best of the trilogy, but it's not the scariest (which is my only complaint since it had every opportunity to be scarier). That being said, I think I still liked this one the best lol

I'm considering starting this drama and this is exactly what i'm worried about - women victims already are depicted…
Definitely I feel like a woman as the main character would have at least balanced it a little better and provided a woman's perspective on the crimes. A woman fighting for justice for other women! As it stands, the entire task force, save 1 woman that I don't recall having any speaking lines/significant dialogue, are men. Their superiors are all men. The main character, a prosecutor, is a man, who lives with his uncle. He receives emotional support from the younger reporter woman and his ex-gf psychologist (who's role is mostly kind ex-gf and sister to another man who's more a part of the plot). All of the victims' families we see are their male family members, who are distraught. There was only 1 woman family member shown (well 2 but the other is in a coma so no perspective from her) and she thought her daughter just left the country and didn't care where her daughter was. So the male family members are shown to care... and the 1 female family member we see doesn't... We have 2 women reporters but they... didn't really contribute to the larger narrative a lot.

I will say the young woman reporter starts off promising. She wants justice for her friend, one of the victims, so I thought she'd be the loud voice next to the ml seeking justice for her fellow women, but her significance in the plot fizzles out over time and her contribution to the larger narrative is basically 0. She's nice to people and does some research for the ML, but that's all she really brings. She wants to run a special on missing urban women, but in the early eps she's called out on the fact that the only reason she wants to talk about missing women is to talk about her friend's case not the others. We only get to see a teeny tiny part of her report when it finally airs so I feel like that basically came to nothing when it could've held so much weight if the writers had LET HER SPEAK and shown us the public's reaction to her words.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that all of the big moves in this show are made by men. All of the big conflicts are between men. Meanwhile we're sitting there watching women get attacked, SA'd, and killed. Their suffering and fear and pain are shown to us, and we see the men in their life shed tears over them and go into rages over them. WHERE are the women in this show???? The show says it wants to comment on crimes against women, and then gives us a sausage fest. If they're going to show me the abuse and murder of women then at the very least they should be giving women a significant voice in the plot, and they didn't.

men dominate the narrative and women exist as either victims or cheerleaders to the men. they want to show us how horrific these crimes are and what the media does in the face of such crimes, but then fail to give women a real voice in the plot. i'm watching women go through hell and men getting upset about it and i wanted more than that. it's disappointing despite the good cinematography and Chris Wu's good acting.

I loved the show, but i think they forget to explain better the bullying part of the start...
Guangyan laughed at Yiyong's dream to become a manhua artist when they had to write down their career paths and Yiyong resented being mocked. Although we saw Yiyong hit him with balls on purpose during PE and glare at him when he saw him, things like Guangyan falling down the stairs had nothing to do with him

I love how many details we're getting about rituals! and finally some spooky ghosts have appeared! i hope it gets scarier, but even if it doesn't i'm still loving the way we're diving into the lore and ritual side of ghosts (it'd be a bit of a bummer ofc, but i'm also just a huge nerd about myths and folklore so all this is super interesting to me regardless)
