Wow both this and Wuliang are just works of art, truly. Heart wrenching stories masterfully made with impact despite…
I truly believe Xiao Wei didn't understand love, so he thought that if he could take Wang Sheng's heart he would understand and love Pei Rong. The kind of "do I want to be him, or be with him?" for a 1000 year old fox spirit, he couldn't tell the difference and concluded that he wanted to take Wang Sheng's place to feel the same love Wang Sheng gives and receives from Pei Rong. However he was wrong, he couldn't force or fake love like that. In the end it seems that not only did he regret what he did to both of them, but he realized what he truly wanted which wasn't to take Wang Sheng's place, but to have Wang Sheng. At the end of the movie, I think he gives him his own lock of hair, twined in red string, hoping they'll meet again in their next lives where things will be different. I find this especially driven home by the lyrics of the closing song, which sing of the red string of fate and the hope for eternal love in this lifetime and the next, ending with "This painting is the shadow of my love for you. This shadow is an endless love song" as the fox gazes out beyond the closing gates.
Not strictly bad, but somewhat unexciting and not really scary honestly. Also why bother with the 2 cases? Just go right to the one man hide and seek case if you weren't intent on actually linking the 2 properly
Fun to see our Cheshire cat Murakami Nijiro in this movie too! He must have gotten a taste of the death games here and went "absolutely I want to be in Alice in Borderland" :'D
"Why though?? Why is this happening??" Don't get caught up on that, it's all just happening as the gods willed…
honestly though this is a fun one. i've been meaning to watch this for so long, and finally i was in the mood! i love the concept, i just wish there was a sequel!
