I'm on episode 18 and liking the fact that the ML doesn't care who the FL lead is, whether a man or woman, he loves her just the same, no matter if she is really a man or woman. I don't know if that makes him bi-sexual but it seemed that label isn't appropriate for him in this drama. That's like in the Chinese drama "Rattan": The ML loves the FL even if she is an old woman (his great great grandmonther) or reincarnated to be a little child or a tree. Too much idealism? Does such a love ever exsist or just in fiction?
Yep, yep, yep. It's very slow. You can skip some episodes and they will still be at the same point. Argh.
I'm glad the government put a stop to long draggy 50+ episodes dramas just for investors of dramas to get more returns. I don't mind slow burn but this is ridiculous because the plot (non-romantic one) hasn't really moved along or progressed through anything interesting?!! That's why it's so slow and frustrating..nothing interesting at all.
I swear to God the only thing keeping me in this drama is waiting for Yang Mi’s empress phase. I’m tired of…
Same! The second lead toxic love couple isn't even good to watch. It's just painful! If the whole point is to get me to hate the king, I guess it's working.
The FL should have toned it down at the beginning. I think a lot of ppl are being turned off at the first few…
I believed the Chinese government had put a stop to dragging on long episodes of a drama to make more money by limiting newly airing dramas to a maximum of 40 episodes. Before last year, dramas can last as many as 50-60 episodes to maximize profits for the investors as the whole dramas are sold as a whole but counted per episode aired. Unfortunately, channels only get the ratings after the drama had aired. So even after the ratings dropped at mid-point, they still have to continue airing the drama until it finished and paid for them. This, unfortunately, caused the sacrifices of creativity and good scriptwriting for the safety of commercial returns for many dramas in mainland China vs. Korean dramas (which rarely goes beyond 20 episodes).
I watch a report on the Vietnamese entertainment site on YouTube that said the FL bought the right to this story…
Interesting, I finished watching the whole drama and walked away with good impressions of the ML not the FL. I can see as an actress, she would want to be famous, but her acting just isn't up to par. Also, the script and directing are better left for people with expertise in them, not the actors/actresses. I guess she didn't understand this at all and therefore ruin a very good story by not adapting it properly. I really wondered what the original story was like? I enjoyed most of the story save the middle part that was draggy and the abrupt ending.
This drama is quite comedic and I enjoyed every part of its silliness. If you enjoy a light hearted drama that makes you laugh and enjoy it's silliness, this one is worth your time.
This was an ambitious project to create this drama, but in my opinion, it was a flop, it lost momentum quickly 2/3 into the drama. I didn't like the ML character who was too soft and passive, making stupid sacrifices for no good reasons. I enjoyed Zheng YeCheng's character much more, even though it was not the main character, it had more character development than the ML. That tells you everything! If you melodrama and tragedies, you'll probably enjoy this one.
I finished watching the drama. The story is worth watching but the FL was so annoying in the beginning (she does get better in later episodes). The ML character is frustrating too. It felt a little draggy after the midpoint, I felt it should have ended nicely around 30 episodes instead of 40. The story, set designs, clothing etc.. is decent. It's not going to blow your mind away but definitely worth watching.
This was the only Chinese drama so far that I actually paid IQYI V.I.P. membership to watch more episodes each week until it's finished. The story, the acting, the pacing, character development... all a hell of a good ride! No fluffs and all stuffs! The way a good police drama should be made. It reminded me of good Hong Kong police dramas in the 90's.
This police undercover thriller keeps you at the edge of your seat. Get ready for a great ride!!! Superb acting cast, riveting storytelling with a plot that keeps you guessing and complex characters which allowed the cast to flex their acting muscles. There is never a dull moment in this drama. It's what police thriller crime dramas are meant to be!
I'm here for ZYC, police/gang violence drama is not usually my cup of tea but this one looks pretty promising in the first 4 episodes. FL is a badass, complicated and not so likeable character, but she's more 3D than most characters in Chinese dramas. ZYC character is another complicated character that seemingly has lots of secrets and things to unravel. I'm curious about what will unfold next!
This drama plot is predictable but surprisingly enjoyable because of the good acting and comedic scenarios in the drama. The chemistry between the leads is amazing. The comedy and hilarious scenarios, light-hearted fun makes this very watchable and enjoyable.
I'm on episode 29. This drama is a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air! Great mystery plot that has good pacing, good acting, decent costume for a low-budget project. This is the first drama I watched in a long time with no filers and good plot development. All the characters are clever and the dialogue is well written (not dumb and predictable like most drama) including for minor characters. They all have their place in moving the plot along nicely including minor characters. The first investigating/mystery drama that made a lot of sense and keeps me engaged... without the need for cheesy romance or adopting the usual habits of Chinese drama to fizzle out in the last 1/3 of the drama. If you love a good investigative mystery drama: this is it!
Funny to post this comment, but I found the most intriguing character in this drama is the villain Wei Sheng Yan. It seemed that this character had more depth with backstory and more three-dimensional than the rest of the leads. The actor also did a good job with this character! The rest of the other casts and characters I found pretty boring and average with characters that are two-dimensional.
wtf hahaha What gave them the audacity to think zi shu is the one who should give birth lol
It didn't really comes across this way in the drama (I haven't read the novel) as Simon Gong's acting is so on spot for being more feminine than ZZH 's character.
Superb acting cast, riveting storytelling with a plot that keeps you guessing and complex characters which allowed the cast to flex their acting muscles. There is never a dull moment in this drama. It's what police thriller crime dramas are meant to be!
