You should try "story of kunning palace", it's more than interesting. The plot is both unique and captivating, I remembered I enjoyed it as much as I'm enjoying "The Double" now. Such an interesting drama as "story of kunning palace" shouldn't be missed. It has almost everything, it's quite similar to "The Double". The double ML is the SML in that drama.
When I started watching kdrama, I started with a masterpiece historical drama "Jumong". It's my first kdrama and it also became my best historical kdrama of all time. I think I watched it 12 or 13 years ago? Anyway, it has 82 episodes, very long right? Yes, its a long episode drama, but each episode was worth my time. I could remember back then I was watching, I didn't skip a single scene even though the episodes were that long. Jumong is about how king jumong founded the greatest nation in the history of Korea "Gorguryeo dynasty". He founded it by fighting and winning countless battles and wars. Also, the FL is one of the key person who made the founding of goguryeo possible. So Seo No, the woman jumong loves. Side by side they overcame many obstacles and founded gorguryeo dynasty. Sure, the ML "song il kook" is older than the FL "han hye jin" in real life, but they're the same age in the drama. Even though there's close to 10 years age gap between them in real life, song il kook didn't look his age one bit, and if I didn't know better, I'd think they're the same age in real life. Up untill now, to be considered a real saeguk fan "historical kdrama fan", that person has to watch jumong to be considered one. After all, it's a non fictional story that captivated many.
As for coffee prince and big, I could remember it took me 3 days to barely complete the three episodes I watched before dropping it. While I was watching both, I always dosed off as I was few minutes in, with time, I decided not to continue with such boring dramas. As for goblin, am planning to rewatch it from where I left off because who knows? I might noticed what MDL users love so about that drama.
Back to my summary about "The Double" I'll pick it up from where I left off. Jiang Li's wrist was injured when her evil husband tied her in chains, and later buried her. Hence, she couldn't play the qin as vigorously as she used to. Jiang Li tried time and again to play vigorously as she used to by pushing herself to the limit, but still couldn't. So, when she accompanied Liu Xun to practice her archery, coincidentally, I wouldn't call it a coincidence really. So, Duke Su was at the drilling ground, and he noticed the injured wrist of Jiang Li, so, he asked her to come to his residence during the night if she wants to get her wrist treated. Jiang Li didn't want to accept his help, so, she tried to play again, but her wrist just wouldn't let her. After the failure, she decided to accept Duke Su's help in treating her wrist and went to his residence the next day, Duke Su was mad she didn't show up at last night, so he made her wait a while before letting her inside his residence. You could call it a tantrum, he asked his friend that was skilled in both medicine and poison to treat her wrists.
Furthermore, his friend "Situ Jiuyue warned her about the risks as she would have to use poison to treat her wrist. And thus, fighting fire with much bigger fire, but she said she could take the pain. So, she began the treatment, the first round was very painful but bearable, but the second method wasn't. Before using the poison, Jiuyue warned her that the poison would make her hallucinate, making her relive her most painful moments, but Jiang Li said she's not afraid. When the second treatment began, Jiuyue poisoned her, so she started hallucinating those moments, to endure the pain she resorted to bitting her lips, but Duke Su hold her, and gave her his hands to bite instead. Caring, right? After the painful treatment, she's cured, but passed out in Duke Su residence due to too mich pain. She spent the night at his residence. After that, her wrist was cured. Will continue in the next reply.
I'm 4 episodes behind in hagwon, and to answer your question about whether I still find it captivating as I wrote in my review. The answer is, yes, not sure about the 4 I haven't watch though, my answer could change after watching those 4 episodes, depending on how it turns out. But for now it's still captivating as per episode 8 I watched last before leaving it to watch "The Double". Yes I'm indeed immersed in "The Double", such that I didn't have the time to watch hagwon, will after I complete "The Double". By the way pal, I saw your comments in red swan section, are you planning to watch it when it airs in July? If so, then that means we'll have another drama to talk about yet again.

I don't quite agree with that. Anyway, the conclusion is that no matter who's casted it wouldn't make a difference because the plot was never interesting in the first place.
But sadly, it wasn't. By the way pal, my journal reply was complete, but don't know what happened when I posted it, it just disappeared. MDL is really pissing me off.

For real! Compared to other xianxias I've seen, TTEOTM's CGI is on a whole new level. I especially love the golden…
Few can rival this drama when it comes to wonderful CGI. Another drama was released this year that also has such wonderful CGI "the legend of Shen Li".
I'm loving the drama surely, it's rare for me to describe a drama so, but "The Double" is sure different. The screenwriters and directors did a wonderful job by writing such wonderful story, and the directors also did a great job by directing such wonderful story excellently. The plot is just unique and captivating, its so unique that it'd make you wish all episodes were released, so as to binge it all in a sitting. Except "story of kunning palace", I've never been so immersed with an historical Cdrama that doesn't have a wuxia genre. Its indeed a drama among dramas.
Yes, the ratings started with 8.4 when the first 4 episodes was released, since then it's been climbing in ratings non-stop. It's only a matter of time before it reaches 9.0 or even 9.1. It might just be the highest rated Cdrama of the year. I've never written an episode review before, but wrote one when I completed episode 11. Jiang Li was underestimated being someone that was banished to Zhennyu hall for 10 years, they thought she knew nothing about literary knowledge and music. So, when she first arrived at "The School of Integrity". They thought she knew nothing, one of the two sons of the enemy of Jiang Li's father in the imperial court "Li Jin" made a bet with her, challenging her team to a competition. The bet was that if Jiang Li team wins, he'll become a monk, but if his team win, she'll return to Zhennyu hall. Jiang Li's team comprises of 4 people; Her, Ye Shi Je, Jiang Jun hao, and Liu Xun. Jiang Li accepted the challenge, she accepted it because the team who wins will receive a reward from the emperor personally. She couldn't miss this chance be rewarded and praised by the emperor himself. So, her team starts preparing for the competition.
Furthermore, Ye Shi Je prepared for literary challenge, Jiang Rui Yui prepared for the chess game, Liu Xun practice archery, and Jiang Li is to go up against the best qin player in the whole Great Yan, her half sister who hates her existence "Jiang Ruo Yao". As the competition day for the entry exam drew closer, Jiang Li's team's practice intensifies. Li Jin team were arrogant of getting first place of course as they don't see her team as worth opponents. But there's a setback, Jiang Li injured her wrists when her evil husband buried her alive. I plan to continue in the next reply.
You know what pal? So I won't appear too judgy, I'll try goblin probably next month to see if I can be impressed a little. But I'm pretty sure, I'll be disappointed. I also didn't like other gong yoo's drama, I remember I tried watching, coffee prince and big, but couldn't make it pass episode 3 for both. The plot was both boring and draggy. But hye kyo's drama has always been interesting, except "now we're breaking up" that is.
"The Double" is indeed the most discussed drama in China at the moment, many social media platforms in China, particularly Weibo are on fire due to the lively discussion about various scenes from the drama. If you check MDL section also, you'll see that the comments is slowly approaching 30K. It's indeed very fun to visit MDL due to the double that's airing. Will complete the rest of my summary in my next reply pal.
That means I'm an episode behind, I haven't watch it yet, I thought a miracle would happen to make Youku release all episodes today, but it seems the miracle didn't happen after all.
Yes, when I completed "story of kunning palace" last year, I thought, I would have to wait for a while to behold such interesting drama again, but the heavens was kind and made this drama air. This drama is a drama among dramas, it's rare for a cdrama that doesn't have a wuxia genre to be this interesting. Its revenge plot is "unique". The screenwriters and directors did a great job, and I think others should learn from them.
Such an interesting drama as "story of kunning palace" shouldn't be missed.
