This series isn't a romance. It's not a love story, but a bromance. I don't know if this series is meant to reassure…
While agreeing with basically everything @JennyStuckOnThatRooftop wrote, I'd like to add something from my own perspective of an imperfect Thai BL watcher. Imperfect (and this is a kind of a disclaimer) as I have watched only about 50 Thai BL series, most of which were produced after 2020 and by GMMTV; while 50 might seem like a high number, that's only a fraction of BL production from that period - hence my perspective may be skewed. From what I've seen Thai BLs are almost never about realism - realism understood as how things are IRL. I might be wrong, but I think that initially - at the very beginning of modern day BL productions (2014-15, when the original "LoveSick" aired) - those shows were more about normalizing gay people and their relationships, familirizing wide audiences with those topics and introducing them into the mainstream, not as a quirky addition, but main focus of a story for everyone. This worked and more shows were produced each year; a BL formula was developed and BLs became a subgenre. It's no longer about raising awareness or increasing visibility - in almost all cases it's a fantasy about very cute/handsome young (or young looking) men becoming romantically involved with each other. And - again, in almost all cases - it relies on tension and emotional build-up between main characters, their journey to becoming a couple (as @JennyStuckOnThatRooftop already pointed out), implied intimacy and desires rather than actually shown ones. Judging by the size of a general BL audience out there this works pretty well for a lot of people. And I don't think it's because these shows are meant to be family shows nor that it is meant to calm parents down - it's just a part of BL aesthetic, or its Thai variant. BTW: BLs used to be almost sterile and include even less overt intimacy than they (usually) do nowadays; that was happening for various reasons - some serious, some petty - but a change is very visible.
Kimmon's relationship is so unstable.. Mon is angry at Kim every episode and that further fuels Kim's insecurity…
I had a similar observation. It got me thinking whether this is deliberate (writers wanted Mon and Kim to be flawed, but authentic) or accidental (there’s no deeper thought behind how Kim and Mon are written). I even made a summary of Kim-Mon interactions in ep. 3-11 to make sure I’m not imagining things. In ep. 3, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 11 Mon was either displeased, annoyed or outright angry because of something Kim did; additionally he was (at least initially) unsupportive of Kim’s efforts to become a model student in ep. 8 and failed to notice (or ignored/disregarded) Kim’s insecurities in ep. 10. I noticed only one instance of Mon actually helping Kim with something: recording Kim’s shorts in ep. 8. On the other hand Kim’s issue, like you pointed out, is honesty/communication, mostly caused by various insecurities and fears – he’s afraid to confess to Mon in ep. 3, panics at the library in ep. 5 (when a teachers asks Kim about his mom), is scared to admit that he likes Sport’s Day in ep. 9 and that he already applied to a uni in ep. 11; he’s also afraid he isn’t good enough for Mon in ep. 10. The same insecurities seem to be the cause of Kim being clingy (like in ep. 4, when Mon tried to study), but also to prove that he can improve as a student (like in ep. 8). I’d say that both Mon and Kim behave and have issues like at least some teens – but still can’t decide whether this is done on purpose or a coincidence. I’m also not a fan of that Kim-Mon dynamic, especially given Kit and Shane as comparison (Kit, in particular, seems to be one of the best BL boyfriends).
According to "Doctor's Mine" IG post (see link below): - "official trailer" will be realeased on 26th June, - ep. 0 will air on 13th July at 11 pm, - ep. 1 will air on 20th July at 11 pm, all on Kongthup Channel's YouTube Channel and Viu. Seems like there will be a cut version on YT and uncut on Viu. Source: www.instagram.com/p/DLUdOa6T6ge/?img_index=1
Can anyone tell me name of the series/movies where they are watching scary scene
Like @lovepatr already stated: "Enigma", a miniseries by GMMTV. The scene is from ep. 1, which aired on 15.07.2023 and is still available on GMMTV's YouTube channel.
Fully agreed. And they wasted him in "My Love Mix-Up!"; he deserved better.
He was barely in it, that's the problem. He was heavily underused. Same with "Perfect 10 Liners" - minimal screen time, barely any lines or anything else to do. Instead of giving him a proper role (either as a main character or a more fleshed out supporting character) GMMTV keeps casting him as background characters.
The show's IG (@doctorsmineofficial) and X (@doctorsmineofc) profiles both say "Start Journey : 2025, July, 13" in their description. This could indicate the airing date of ep. 1 or the release of an "episode 0" (introducing the cast and crew). However, no official trailer was released yet (all we got was the "teaser pilot" released on 29.10.2024) - and official trailers usually come with a release date of the show. Kongthup Production and Kongthup Artist media give no release date either. Let's wait and see whether this changes - they should at least drop a trailer and a poster properly announcing the show.
Bit off topic: does anyone here know what GMMTV show or series will fill the Wednesday slot? Yesterday the trailer for "Memoirs of Rati" was aired - the show will fill the Friday slot; since this was announced even before STGD finished airing I started wondering whether anything was announced regarding Wednesdays (now that MGB ended).
What got me thinking was why Wiwat went from denying everything in ep. 6 to admitting everything and offering…
Yes, it could be that - but if so, why deny everything initially? If getting Day and Night to do what he did is getting them on his side (so to speak), then why no do it right away, when they both showed up in his office?
Almost 60% of the series is over and it’s still at the same level popularity wise as at the starting. This is…
While I agree with some of what you wrote, I got intrigued by your comment that "lack of an interesting storyline sabotages" the show. What would you consider an interesting storyline? I'm asking cause I often find the writing to be the weakest part of Thai BLs - but also realize that there are limits to what one can do with a love story.
Fun fact: within 2 years she played the mother of 2 different main characters in Thai BLs portrayed by actors named "Wanarat" - in 2023 in "Wedding Plan" as mother of Sailom, portrayed by the handsome "Sunny" Wannarat Wattadalimma, and in 2024 in "Jack&Joker: U Steal My Heart" as mother of Joke/Joker, portrayed by the amazing "War" Wanarat Ratsameerat.
I just finished watching ep. 10 and my face is still wet from tears. Mark, Ohm, Khaotung and Honey did a wonderful job. There was almost no music during the last scene with Mark and Khaotung - and it allowed the emotional charge to hit with full force.
So finally we get more information. I've already thought that the doctor has transmitted the curse to Day and…
What got me thinking was why Wiwat went from denying everything in ep. 6 to admitting everything and offering Night a solution to the Leap Day curse. And why did he even get involved with saving Dream's life? No one knew Wiwat was nearby and witnessed what happened, he could have - as it seemed at the end of ep. 7 - slowly back away and go home. Did he get involved because he saw Kit - first with Ozone and now with the others - and feared his old pal would aid Day and Night in their inquiry? Or is there a different reason - other than plot convenience? So far Wiwat was portrayed as a cold, calculating man, doing only what serves him - what does he stand to gain from exposing himself to Night?
Emmaly looks like an amalgam of Wakanda (a small non-Western country with vast riches, technologically advanced but upholding traditions, ruled by an absolute monarch) and Hogwarts (society split between four clans with distinct coats of arms, supposedly indicating their traits), but the image created by the show is very inconsistent and very much not Southeast Asian. The Davichmetha clan has a phoenix in its coat of arms – not just any firebird, but specifically the one from Greek mythology. Charan is teaching at the Morpheus University – again, Morpheus is a character from Greek mythos. Latin alphabet and English language seem to be everywhere: the royal palace has the word “EMMALY” on its clock tower, the coats of arms of the four clans include their names written with Latin alphabet only, the DNA results are displayed in English (for a room of Emmalians only), even the conference call of princes Rachata, Chana and Wasin displays their full names written with Latin alphabet. Last but not least: the national anthem of Emmaly is in English. Carlton Towers, a country house in North Yorkshire, is posing as the royal palace in Davin City. Not only is its architecture nothing like anything built in Thailand, but each wide shot of that location clearly shows that it is not in Southeast Asia – you can see an English autumn landscape surrounding it. All scenes in the palace interiors and exteriors so far were taken at La Chapelle, a "luxury wedding venue" in Bangkok, which "was inspired by Venetian gothic architecture derived from the 15th century" (according to the venue’s website) and looks nothing like historic Thai architecture. And why is fencing so important in Emmaly? While it may make some sense storywise, it’s a sport which originated in the West, evolving from European swordsmanship. Asian countries have a long and rich swordsmanship history and traditions – why not use them instead? I have nothing against Emmaly being a fairytale kingdom, but why can’t it be a fairytale from Thailand or any other Southeast Asian country – why does it have to be Disney?
I didn't get how one (rather unimportant) thing happened in this episode: when Tong was in Thara's study (you know, the big room with mostly blue walls from the Sizzy+Nanon MV for "Love Score") talking about a scholarship, Mark got a call from Thara and showed up to join their conversation. But wasn't Mark supposed to be out of town looking for Nakan? We see Mark and Thara's men driving somewhere, discussing the search for Nakan - and that happens before the blue room scene. Also, Mark left Tong at Thara's place so that Tong would be safe while Mark's searching for Nakan; they said their goodbyes and Mark left. There's the bathroom scene with Mark juxtaposed with a scene of Tong in Mark's old bedroom - again, watching that I thought Mark's away, staying somewhere out of town while conducting his search for Nakan, while Tong is at Thara's. But then they meet, just like that, in Thara's blue walled study - Mark walked in as if he was next door. Either I didn't get something or the editing of this episode was a little weird.
