Hard to say, as - so far at least - none of the promo pics and posts for the special mention iQIYI nor other online media; all of that promotional material mentions the Major Cineplex Ratchayothin screenings of 22.02.2025 only. Even the logos of Channel 3 and iQIYI, which were present on every picture, poster etc. when the main series was airing, are absent. On the other hand there's this post from 19.02.2025 from JACKANDJOKER.OFFICIAL X account: ปิ๊งป่อง ปิ๊งป่อง!! มาแล้วครับความคืบหน้า Jack & Joker The Special Episode บนช่องทาง Online: “ตอนนี้อยากแอบกระซิบว่า 90.98% แล้วคราฟ อีกอึดใจเดียว คนทั่วโลกต้องได้ดูคราฟ พวกเราต้องทำให้ได้ เพื่อแฟนๆทุกคน“ ให้ทาย?? แอดมินคนไหนมาบอกข่าวดีนี้ครับ 😋 I'd say the special will become (legally) available online some time after the cinema screenings - and only should YWPB reach an agreement with iQIYI or a different VOD service. Right now it might seem that they have no deal regarding that - hence the lack of any mentions of iQIYI.
I'll correct you on one thing. James never said he wanted to stop acting. What I think is that he felt forced…
Just to clarify: I did not write that James said anything, I did not quote James nor did I claim that James said he wanted to stop acting. What I did was I quoted a few words from the 29.02.2024 mandeework statement regarding James leaving the show, I marked it as a quote and - in brackets - I indicated the source of the quote. Neither the quote nor the statement say that James is quitting acting (nor did I claim anything of that sort); in fact the word "acting" doesn't even appear in the statement. The fragment quoted by me is the only part of the statement that mentions a reason for James leaving the show (in full this sentence reads "Mandee Work Co., Ltd., would like to inform that one of the main actors, James Supamongkon Wongwisut, portraying “Nakhun and Klao”, has decided to withdraw from this series to focus on his career as an artist") - and that (by which I mean the words "to focus on his career as an artist") was what I quoted.
I don't get the whole "James leaves the show, so it gets delayed" thing. The news of James withdrawing from the show was announced on 29.02.2024. JJ was revealed as a replacement for James in May 2024. Why wasn't the show made in the months that followed? Why is it that today - almost a year after James left the show - all we have is a trailer for the series? Call me crazy, but it seems that the production delay had nothing to do with James leaving. And how come James left the production of "Love Upon A Time" to "focus on his career as an artist" (to quote the mandeework statement from 29.02.2024), but he's still a cast member of two mandee shows: "Zomvivor" (a series announced on 13.12.2022 - yes, 2022 - which supposedly was in production for several weeks in 2024, but wasn't released yet) and "Mr. Fanboy"? Again, call me crazy, but it seems weird that starring in "Zomvivor" and "Mr. Fanboy" does not interfere with James "focusing on his career as an artist", but starring in "Love Upon A Time" somehow did interfere with it. I don't get any of that.
Not really an anecdote, but I'll share it nevertheless. So a few days ago I was browsing Satang's IG. What struck me was the apparent lack of pics of Satang with Winny. Most BL ships (not just in the employ of GMMTV) have plenty of pics like that and a lot of them find their way to IG accounts of both ship members. This didn't seem to be the case with Satang, which did surprise me a little. That was like 7 days ago. "All of the sudden" - 4 days ago and 3 days ago - Satang's IG was graced by two sets of pics of him and Winny. Just like that, almost like an answer to what I thought I noticed. BTW: I did discover afterwards that Satang's IG account did include some posts with pics of him and Winny, but in almost all cases a pic with both of them was not the first one in a set - hence the pic displayed by default was of Satang alone.
I didn't believe that drastic change the father has. In one episode is clearly homophobic and in the other it…
Teerak's mom said "I know you’re disappointed. So am I" (according to English subs on iQIYI) - and that's what made me angry. That was the bit I couldn't forget nor forgive, that's why in my review of ep. 11 and the entire series I wrote that the show is attempting to defend homophobia. Truly inexcusable.
As I watched the "uncut" version of this show I reviewed that instead of the "cut" one, but I do agree with what you wrote. What utterly ruined the show for me was the way it presented Teerak's homophobic father; it was so outdated (so 2015) that I felt like the show is actually defending homophobia. I loved your "even Joker didn't smile that much" remark.
I agree about the competition, I think there are many companies delivering more interesting Bls, I myself hope…
I might be wrong, but I think GMMTV based it's position on - mostly - playing it safe and producing BL shows with no or minimal content that could be considered sexual. Around 2022-2023 other BL companies decided to use that niche - GMMTV responded by including more overt intimacy in it's shows (kisses started to look like kisses, characters were more open about sex etc.).
i agree with practically everything you wrote, except for those parts that seem a bit puritanical to me. i particularly…
Thanks; to clarify - I have nothing against sex scenes in BLs; I do have, however, an issue with making the whole show just or mainly about it/for it. There's already a genre for that - and it's not BL.
Enough of the miniscule guest roles and pointless support roles already! His "Cooking Crush" performance was real dynamite (pun intended) - the guy can actually act, unlike most GMMTV employees; give him a proper role! Let him shine in the spotlight, let him be a crazy lover, a scheming villain, an unhinged madman - I don't care, just let him act. Relegating him to unimportant roles with almost no screen time is criminal.
YES! I have seen him in BMF and We are. This got me wondering: has he been paired up with an actor so far (as…
Not to my knowledge. He was Drake's date in "Wandee Goodday", but usually he appears a character that is or seems to be single. Nothing in the 2025 lineup indicated that it's going to change.
This doesn't sound much different than the Thai adaptation - main exception being that it's much shorter. As I recall you gave the Thai adaptation a rating of 7.0 and warned about pretty much the same content issues (in both cases steming from MAME's dreadful writing).
William's acting was remarkable; he dominated every scene he was in so effortlessly. And that interview scene... When he sat down, seemingly disinterested, and put both hands in his pockets - I could swear he'll take out a lighter, a pack of cigarettes and starts smoking! (what he did instead was far better) Whether he's playing a douche full of himself or a quiet, withdrawn singer, he's a fricking scene stealer. I'm hooked.
Re #2, you might want to throw some votes on this suggestion and/or comment: https://kisskh.at/discussions/suggestions/69417-remove-on-going-reviews-categoryThe…
Voted and commented. The idea to curb early/premature reviews seems good, even if it won't solve all rating-related issues. I did notice, however, that voting started more than 2,5 years ago - any idea how many votes are needed for it to succeed or (at least) for MDL to address it?
1/ No idea why so many people are upset about the rating. Is there something weird happening with it? Maybe. But whether it's low or high - it doesn't affect the show nor its quality (it's already produced, so it won't change, and it'll be aired in full regardless of the rating here or elsewhere). If you enjoy the show - why do you care that some people don't or about a number displayed on MDL? 2/ 6 days after ep. 1 aired there are 109 reviews, vast majority of which give the show a 10/10 rating. Those are reviews of the show, not of ep. 1. How can anyone review a 12 episode series having watched just 1 episode? You obviously can;t and a lot of the reviewers admits that: they state that they reviewed ep. 1 only. At the same time there are mere 15 reactions to ep. 1. Yes, MDL has a section were you can post your review of a specific episode; go to "Episode Guide", choose a specific episode and scroll down to the reactions part of the page. 3/ I wouldn't be surprised if the current rating was due to (among other things) how the algorithm reacts to this inflation of 10/10 reviews. If the algorithm is weighing the ratings (e.g. ratings given early don't weigh as much as given later or after the show aired in full), those could be getting the rating lower instead of pumping it up.
Not sure casting is the biggest problem here nor that I'd rate the show as low as you did (and just after ep. 1), but I wholeheartedly agree with you that the show's problems come from its director - who in this case is also the scriptwriter. I agree that a lot of things feel forced and off; I'm not convinced by choices made for most visuals (like the opening scene or Kant's and Bison's one-night-stand or virtually everything about the diner). I had similar problems with "Only Friends", Jojo's previous show were he was allowed to both direct and write. I even had a theory that Jojo - an openly gay director (bless him for that, the community needs more people out of the closet) - presents a very specific, sex-focused vision of the LGBTQ community, particularly of queer men. I'm not saying that he shouldn't be able to do that and there are obvious advantages to what he proposed in "Only Friends" and "The Heart Killers" in this regard. It does border on fantasy a lot, but - a bit surprisingly - it's also a much more realistic approach than the sanitized and desexualized presentation known from most BLs. My theory was that Jojo was allowed to go so far because GMMTV was afraid to lose part of its BL audience to the competition. With BLs like "Bed Friend" reaching for viewers who wanted more "mature" content (meaning more graphic intimacy between males) GMMTV wanted to stay in the race - so they charged Jojo with creating a response, their own "mature" show, were sex between men was openly discussed. "Wandee Goodday" was, to some extent, part of the same response. However, by doing so they (GMMTV and Jojo) overdid it, focusing on sex and related aesthetics while neglecting feelings or presenting them as less important for the characters. I really hope THK will balance those things. Sorry for the wall of text.
When exactly will the last episode be broadcast (in the Thai time zone)? (The countdown is not showing… is it…
Judging by when previous episodes were released it'll be 23:00 / 11 PM. No idea why the countdown is gone, but I noticed that MDL considers J&J as a show that is no longer airing (as if all of it aired already) - I think these two things are connected.
The description of this show is nothing like the show itself. I found War put the joke in Joker in his laughable,…
If, as you say, the description is very inaccurate and “someone really needs to rewrite” it “because it is a false advertisement” – what are you waiting for? Do you see the “Edit this Page” link at the top of the page, right next to the title of the show? Hit it, choose “Primary Details” and you’ll be able to edit the synopsis. Choose “Genres” and you’ll be able to edit genres and tags. No point complaining in the comment section about something you can do just as easily as writing a comment.
I don’t understand why Jack is angry with Joker. It doesn’t make any sense, because without him Jack still…
I agree that in ep. 2 and later Jack blaming Joker and Joker feeling guilty is unreasonable - for a number of reasons: Jack would never get the bank loan to pay off Boss/open the school he dreamed about, Joker had nothing to do with Jack's debts nor Jack's deal with Boss, Joker went to prison for what he did - Jack was released etc. More than that: Jack seems to know this. He also knows Joker didn't rob him of anything except his ... hopes and dreams - and that's why he feels so strongly about Joke. It's unreasonable, but because both protagonists are so emotional, it's perfectly relatable. Joke lost his dreams too, it seems: he did want to prove himself - to his father/parents/family, to himself; he wanted to be a hero (broadly speaking), for which he's mocked by both his father and Jack. I assume that's why he's so bent on Jack forgiving him - that's his last chance for redemption, but also recognition. Obviously, this shapes their dynamic for the rest of the series and is a recurring motive.
