In Episode 8 when Sa Eon said "How can I make you believe it? What can I do to ease your mind?" at that point he carefully chose his words. He didn't try to give any false hope to Hee Ju that everything will be fine or something like that. He himself is not sure whether he will be able to come back from there or not....

Its true but, Hong Heeju's character is someone who has a very low self-esteem, because of (abusive upbringing, emotional neglect, internalized guilt and fear). Because of this past experience, She struggle to believe that she deserves such care. Hee Ju never thought she will experience love and support.
