Raul talks about his struggle as a model and facing failure and how it was the first time he was treated differently and there were moments he felt that he was not even seen as a person and how all of it was an immense shock to him because Japanese models are considered as the bottom of the barrel compared to American / Western models.
āļø"I cried at the frustration of being myself for the first time after becoming an adult" and he thinks this whole experience affected his view of life added so much to him as a person and it also helped him express better as an actor too.
I think he could channel that sadness and vulnerability with Kaworu being treated as an object here in the drama too, especially in the sequence of being called an idiot and dancing for Akina shachou was acted by him in such a heartbreaking delicate way.š No wonder he improved his acting exponentially after Lemon Soda, because emotional struggles adds so much to acting.
Agree. I started to watch it a while back, was kind of slow but maybe that was on purpose, I'll take another look…
Same! the hurt she gave Taiga from childhood is unforgivable and how she is still this shameless and is in his life only as a parasite is even more unforgivable.
Agree. I started to watch it a while back, was kind of slow but maybe that was on purpose, I'll take another look…
Oh I feel the same! the host club added so much magic and dimension to the drama. Again I can't emphasize enough that every single character here is SOO well casted, it's almost unbelievable.
That's the understatement of the year. I think Raul been so proud of his amazing dancing/singing and modeling.…
I completely agree with you and I wrote this before too, he was beyond terrible in Honey Lemon Soda and this is coming from a Snow Man stan lol. He improved in that Bodyguard movie(I havenāt seen it fully) and after seeing that movie, this dramaās director/team apparently offered him the role, they probably saw his potential as an actor, I didnāt lol.𤣠I was personally surprised that the team who did Hirugao offered him a drama.. like wow.
Snow Man fans were all apprehensive that he would bomb this, but now we are shell-shocked as we donāt see the Raul we knew in the drama at all. He was even Kaworu coded irl and was struggling emotionally juggling his other work and acting. In a recent soresuno episode he gave up suddenly was like āI want to look coolā and other members were concerned about him and said ābeing a host is affecting youā, he was that much focused with the character and worked hard on his acting. Now heās back to his normal hilarious dorky self, so we knew the filming is over lol
He struggled with Honey Lemon Soda too since heās really shy irl with people he don't know and Meguro had said that Raul struggled with things like how to film kiss scenes and spent many days getting advice from him. So we get it that he was just too young and inexperienced and his awkwardness showed everywhere in that movie. But how far he has come is incredible so you are absolutely correct to say that he doesn't feel like the same person.
He is a chameleon is what I feel in all aspects of his creative endeavors now.
That's the understatement of the year. I think Raul been so proud of his amazing dancing/singing and modeling.…
Snow Man just yesterday informed they are releasing an album and doing 5 dome tours. Raul is the one who designs and makes the set-lists, so he is pretty much booked for the year.
Thinking or how Hirugao and this drama have same musicians, I just remembered reading a fun but brain breaking fact: the restaurant and the female owner of it in episode 6 exists in Hirugao's film too.
So Hirugao and this drama exists in the same universe𤯠The writer and director's creativity is just beyond this world.
Rewatched episode 6 during my lunch break for a good mid day cry šThe music for this drama really makes everything…
The OST is just heart tugging and just so haunting. I can't stop listing to: 'gomen ne chiwawa sensei' on Spotify. It feels serene yet SOOO heart breaking, I don't how they did it.
Rewatched episode 6 during my lunch break for a good mid day cry šThe music for this drama really makes everything…
I can never move on from episode 6, it will forever be in the back of my unconscious mind š
The whole episode, the cinematography, the dialogues, him laying his head on her, getting teased by public, him not buying a train ticket, the parasol, their short class, her confession about her life, why the kanji ęµ·sea has the word ęÆmother in it?, money, class consciousness, the fighting, fireworks, the difference of one choosing curry and donburi, pachinko parlor confession, playing hide and seek, back hug, the yearning, talking about hight tide, the beach etc etc my god I am emotionally unstable just thinking about it š¤£
Agree. I started to watch it a while back, was kind of slow but maybe that was on purpose, I'll take another look…
I hate writing Kanji by hand too so I understand his struggles lol but seriously, his dyslexia and how he was let down by everyone and how his childhood was stolen from him just for that, makes me SO sad for him. So much human potential was stolen from him. I've never felt this much sympathy towards a fictional character. Raul showing those vulnerabilities perfectly makes it a million times better too.
Also I love how his dyslexia is not everything Taiga is in this drama. For example I loved 'Silent' but, it failed in that aspect, disability was almost everything in that drama.
The writer is SO brilliant, I can't praise her enough!š
Also a big theme in this drama is everyone is wishing for love but the way they go about to receive it might be…
Patriarchy is vicious and subtle in the violations towards women like that, they are not defined or even recognized harmful enough to be warranted criticism and men wonāt be ashamed of their actions, as it is their birthright to behave the way they do. All of Kawaharaās portrayal and behavior can be explained with that.
Men are also victims of patriarchy and Kawahara is a good example of that, but he recognized it and thatās enough for me. I understand the writerās intention of creating him from the start. He was the next man in line who was supposed to keep Manami from her true self after her father. Manamiās dad once encouraged Kawahara saying āyou donāt have to show constraint/thoughtfulness towards THE woman who will become your wifeā perpetuating his own behavior. Kawahara is also shown in contrast with Taigaās nature. Both of them have a playfulness, one induces disgust and other makes you say how precious, but their status in society and job should make you feel the opposite, but it doesnāt. Thatās skillful storytelling of complex characters and it shows how these men in Manami's life affect her, people who should've protected her mistreats her, but that's all they can be for her. I think the writer is just brilliant.
I personally think Jdramas do not āhumanizeā bad behavior as you said earlier per se. They do show terrible behavior as an aspect of ābeing humanā or people being driven to become terrible. Nature vs nurture vs culture. The concept ē“ é”/sugao (real nature/true picture) is brought in to explain behavior. Kaworu is not Taiga and Taiga tried to become Kaworu but failed at it as it is not his true nature.
I know that might not be enough but thatās just cultural differences.
I think itās just cultural differences. From the very first scene he was shown to be a ridiculous man and almost…
I get what your saying, but I personally don't want no more Kawahara stealing precious drama time, so I don't want to see his complete redemption arc, he can go to hell for all I care LOL
Same! it's one of my favorite tropes, two people unlike to fall in love, falls in love! Opposites attract done…
"I watched other dramas where I struggled a bit to see why they were captivated by each other in the first place"
^^ I drop dramas immediately if I feel that.. I absolutely I HATE it. Like if I feel like they are making dramas for the sake of it and not to tell stories about people I am done.
Definitely going to be starting at a wall too. All the fans of the drama are saying the same! The "drama loss" we are going to feel after the last episode is going to be crazy, I am already dreading it š
Agree. I started to watch it a while back, was kind of slow but maybe that was on purpose, I'll take another look…
I loved Hirugao, itās one of the best Jdramas imo, but itās comes no where close to what Ai no gakkou is. I mean if it had a more skillful ML actor who was less boring I wouldāve loved it WAAY more, but overall it was great, it being an affair was also a minus. But I loved the FL and how complex she was, the portrayal of women who helplessly fall in love rarely exists so I enjoyed that. Also the monologues were just divine, the writer is just so great at it.
OMG SAME!! The opening scene was enough for me to realize I am in for a treat, and the ending rooftop scene of teaching Kaworu how to write his name was one of the best things Iāve seen in my whole life.ā¤ļø It was SO DAMN precious.
My fate was sealed, Iāve never being this invested in a drama, like ever. I don't even comment on the dramas I loved previously and here I am making fan edits lmao.
Same. I created an account just to comment. It seems like LTL is gaining a lot of traction. A lot of us are beyond…
Haha yeah since it's about the whole group but Raul was one of the key persons creating it. He damn talented in so many ways š¤ Yes Raul on the Runway is on the 13th.
The director and writer combi said theyād love to work with each other again, and ALL they want to do is love stories foreverš„°
Hirugao and Aino, Gakkou both have this flavor and flair for drama telling that is SO unique, like Iāve never seen that uniqueness be repeated anywhere else. Both dramaās OSTās are also so beautiful and I am hungry for more, so I hope it doesnāt take 10 more years for these 2 creatives to come together.
Seriously I donāt care how this drama ends, so far this is one of my favorite dramas EVER š
I am trying to do my part to spread my love for this drama because Iāve only seen 2 other edits towards international drama watchers on this drama on Youtube, so I want it be picked up by YouTube algorithm, so it can reach normies who in turn will watch it on Netflix lol
Even one single person falling in love this drama is worth itā¤ļø

Taiga is so pitiful in all fronts in his life in that sense.
And it makes this love story more pure as only Taiga and Manami see each other for who they really areš„¹ us against the world trope done wellā¤ļø

Also in a recent interview he says, being an idol is his priority:

So Hirugao and this drama exists in the same universeš¤Æ
