(like I get it, I am muchuu about this drama LOL 😂)
Kaworu low-key drawing parallels with Manami's students not giving her attention/hating her, and how his boss taught him how to keep clientele by discriminating and not treating them equally was also very telling on how to manipulate emotion by making THEM wanting to feel special. Hosts are scary like that, people joke that they are glad there are no hosts like Raul/Kaworu irl or they would've lost their life savings LOL

I loved Akina-shachou’s short stint in the drama. I mean, I love all characters in a drama for the first time ever in my life lol. The writer presents each character so meaningfully and each line of dialogue is said intentionally to inform the viewer.
So as an argument for her complexity: In an earlier episode she says to Kaworu "I love playing at host clubs because I love seeing men compete where their parent’s status nor their education matter", establishing her motivation. It means she hates that how Men and their rules run the world, so the hostclub is her safe-place where a woman don't have to adjust themselves or support the 'normal' men who run this world, hosts do the adjusting. She runs the host clubs members lives, the whole club stops for her when she’s there as she’s a huge spender. She also hates being overlooked and undermined, probably because she is irl. Female shachous are rare and will tell their struggle anywhere in the world. More so in Japan.
She understands the exploitation VERY well and is even willing to give all she have to make them number one, that she even steals. She did what she did, not because she recognized she’s being exploited but because she wasn’t given anything in return, she craved importance “dareka no ichibanni naritakatta/ I wanted to become someone’s priority/number one” and she thought she only asked for that simple thing in return for all her money as she says in the police station, but wasn’t even given that. When she runs out of money, both times the hosts didn't give what she really needed and both times them suddenly becoming cold or looking at her like dirt, broke the camel's back.
She realized that the men at the hostclub are indeed the same men who run the world, BOTH overlooks BOTH exploits women, after that realization she says “I want to kill anyone who preys upon women”. She also wanted someone to feel like they can’t live without her because she would do the same for them too but none reciprocated. That’s all she wanted “reciprocation with priority and gratitude”.
Hosts exploit the hunger for connection and loneliness (Kaworu recognizes Manami’s loneliness in episode 1 as something to exploit). That is one of the reasons why the law changed to be no rankings, as people have ruined their lives over it because some manipulative host says ‘ranking’ is SUPER important, like Kaworu once was. When Kaworu was hesitating, she asked “doing an obachan scares you?” feeling not being "reciprocated" again after getting him pricy gifts. Glad Kaworu-chan only got the wine treatment for his hesitation and not the knife treatment 😂.
She could also be thought as the result of “female loneliness pandemic” for her age group. Women are overlooked and not given the love or attention they wanted all their lives. So in a way host clubs are heaven for them. She was looking for love and gratitude in a wrong place.
