I am glad you liked the female lead, since some viewers had the opposite reaction. Since you liked the FL now, you will only grow to like her more if you continue, given how forthcoming and smart she is. Also, the ML respects her decisions and trusts her throughout, so the factor of belittling her won't appear - you might even like the petting

Petting is actually a cultural thing, and a form of expression of affection. In any case, the romance is a slow burn and isn't the entire focus.

It touches on very important topics, especially that of a healthy childhood / being in terms with your wounded past to be in a fulfilling relationship. I wish it had two or more episodes to properly explore how FL's realisations helped heal her relationship. I wish we could have seen more of them.

I tend to read low ratings for a popular show before heading into the reviews that give high ratings, and now I am ore curious about the show - through the few clips I had seen of the show, I had felt it romanticized mental health. It appears it was the case here too. I want to form an opinion for it myself now. You pointed out the problems in a level headed manner, and I'm glad to see.

I find it astonishing how easy it is for MDL viewers to excuse cute serial killers and hate on a competent female lead who was arguably the only moral compass throughout the drama. She also kept the male lead sane - the romance, in my humble opinion, was essential in that sense. For an audience that claims Lee Hyun suffered a lot, it sure does not want someone to be there for him.
