Life is beautiful isn't a BL. It's a family drama. We follow all members of the family. So there are heterosexual couples. The eldest son is gay. Like the hetero couples, his partner and he have as much screen time. It's a long TV drama (63 episodes) but there is a cut for the gay couple on bilibili.
I've only seen 1st episode of Deep Night. I was disappointed since a lot of people kept talking about how it's good. So I dropped it for now. But maybe I'll binge watch when I'm in the mood to see if it gets better. Though I wonder why you think it's prostitution. Prostitution "the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment." Hosts don't have s*x with their clients.
BL are lighter than straight shows. Producers only want money. Fans are happy as long as there is gay love. I was like that when I discovered BL. In 2015 it was worse since there were even less BL. So I was happy with the few we got. I was also younger.
Now there are more BL but the quality isn't that much higher. Sometimes I feel like it got worse because they don't care about making good stories. The plot are still the same and duller at the same time. Though there are few who try new things. For example, I liked "7 days before Valentine".
That's why I often prefer bromance. I'm not talking about Chinese censored BL, but bromances without hetero romance like "Beyond evil". There is an interesting plot and I can ship the guys like I want without any woman coming between them.
I wish 1 day we'll get more BL like straight show with depth in the plot and the emotions while removing NC scenes. For me as long as BL have NC scenes everyone will focus on them while disregarding the plot.
The only BL where I saw Pond was 180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us. So I hoped for another mature BL if he's part of the cast. Looks like my hope died like Earth in UWMA.
Saw Bas in 1 series. Not a fan. Maybe he'll be a better actor here?
It was hard for me to finish this movie. Though the last 20-25 minutes were more interesting. I had 3 main problems with it: 1. The "anime happiness, smiling face, always cheerful" in a lot of scenes that just felt too forced.
2. The lack of depth in the characters. It was too short for me to get attached to them and feel involved in their issues. I just didn't care about them.
3. This kind of plot is more suitable for a series rather than a movie. The movie format is too short for a good characters development and for all 7 men to shine individually & together. Also more time for bromance🤭
If this is adapted to a series, I'll surely watch.
I saw this movie 2-3 times and I didn't notice?...remember? that Lee Je Hoon was in the cast 🥲🤦🤦 😂 Now I want to see him in a well produced BL/LGBTQ movie or drama😅 Also Yeon Woo Jin is his partner!! So another movie/drama with them? Just Kidding😂 I know it'll never happen. They're both popular.
Anyways I love their chemistry. The story was really cute. And the kisses...😳🫣
China. One doesn't need to say much more. Potential ruined, barely any bl substance and you have to read between…
For me it was obvious they loved each other. Not much reading between the line needed. Also for me BL don't need to have kisses or NC scenes to be a good BL.
I liked this series💕 The main couple had good chemistry and their love was cute. I've been a sucker for "friends to lover" lately more than "enemies to lovers". So I enjoyed it a lot. And I don't mind low budget work.
Started pretty good. Loved the dark theme, the supernatural and the mystery. Got me really intrigued. But then the writing became weak. The solved mystery wasn't so interesting. The supernatural part was solved too quickly. Plus there we got guitar and singing🫠
Overall a promising plot that would have been amazing with better writing. And no singing or guitar (Except if it's Jeff🤭).

When I talked about the harsh reality, it was mostly because of the rare BL that broach a subject without going any deeper. I just think it would create a better drama than the tired love triangle or cheating trope (especially in seasons 2. That don't exist for me). The kind I'm thinking about is Love is beautiful (2010) with Kyungsoo/Taesub's families reactions.
In general I prefer when BL aren't focused on the coming out (what I hate in American gay stories). However I wish BL had more depth to them with heavy emotions and interesting dialogues.
For example if the characters feel hopeless, sad, angry, etc. I want to feel their emotions. Most of the time, I feel nothing while watching BL. It's worse when I see the potential for it, but the writers and directors didn't do their job.
It's the same for the dialogues. They're often meaningless and empty. Like a teenager writing for the first time. I don't know if you understand what kind of dialogues I'm talking about? I often see those kind in -non BL- Asian dramas.
This series' plot is too heavy for only 6 episodes/21 minutes. If it was only about Iwanaga-sensei trying to win over Myata-kun for the 6 episode then it would be an okay series. However, with the added family drama, it should be way longer (12-14 episodes) to allow for excellent plot development. And a more emotional story. That will make me feel every single emotion of the characters!
As it is, the series was lacking too many things. Especially the depth in dialogues and emotions. Also, I didn't feel any chemistry in the beginning, mostly because of Iwanaga-sensei's facial expression. It felt like he wasn't serious about his love. I preferred him in the last 2 episodes. When he became more serious. He gained charisma and attractiveness.
Shiraishi was my favorite character. I wish for a spin-off story for him. I loved his sassiness, even if it's against Myata-kun. His "you bitch🥰" was priceless🤣. I would have loved to see a confrontation him against Sugimoto.
I was interested in watching it after I saw 1 scene, but didn't want romance between the leads.

Also Oh Dong Joon is a good actor. I hope he'll get more opportunities.

You mean a story about the LOVE between Ye Yuwei and He Cheng😌
Just asking because I don't want romance.

A 7/10 for me.
