On Shin's Project Oct 18, 2025
It was difficult for me to finish the first few episodes. Mr. Shin's tone and mannerisms felt like Dr. Romantic. He's still like the 'doctor' we know but retired and put up a chicken diner. Haha.

HOWEVER, this drama grew on me. I appreciate how they tackle the cases in the perspective, not only of the law or the victim, but also of someone who can use the enemy to make a move for the benefit of the majority.

they could've placed the infinite cooking hell as final round as this tested their endurance and wits as chefs. the winner got really lucky to sit out this round.

this drama was actually fun yet meaningful, it hurts seeing people say it was just β€œall fluff” just because…
I agree! ❀️

Tai Bai Long - "I lost, but I also won this round. I tried adding depth into my dish, but I could not captivate their taste buds in one bite. That is also my shortcoming."

Cook Yeon - "I won it too. But if I'm being honest, I feel like I lost somehow too. And my fault was trying to captivate their taste buds in one bite, so I could not add depth."

These two statements are contrasting, yet showed both of the cooks' strengths. I guess, the comments in here are the same. Some are looking for depth that they were not happy or disappointed with this drama. Some are just fine watching this drama as long as their "taste buds" or feeling entertained are satisfied (I fall in this category).

Depending really on your taste that you will have to see this drama for yourself. Please don't mind the comments or the reviews. There may be bad reviews, but there are good comments too! There's a reason why this was hyped. For me, it's a perfect escape from my stressful world!

i really dont get SOME of the hate comments like i can understand if its not your cup of tea but some of you really…
I share the same sentiment. especially the ones saying it's "overhyped". Viewership ratings on Nielsen Korea are consistently 1st on the list, also consistently on top shows on Netflix. So are they dismissing the intellect of majority who find this FUN? SMH. There are so many aspects to be considered on what makes a drama a success - and this won the hearts of the viewers through its entertainment value.

full series is awesome except last episode. why they make last episode in such hurry ? why can't they make 1 or…
1. Kings have lines of succession. I'm not an expert in this, but I observed that priority is given to the king's direct offspring rather than a brother or cousin. Instead of making Jesan the king, Heon, the son, was made the successor. Heon doesnt have a son yet, so next in line is JinMyeong, his younger half brother. Then next in line is Jesan since there are no other princes. He needs Jin Myeong to be the king first or else, he would be suspected of treason.

2. Jin Myeong ascended the throne, a new era.

3. and 4. Some say that these were explained in the novel. I havent read it. But accdg to social media, the plane Ji Yeong was on crashed, she survived, hence the hospital. Heon woke up in 2025 with the torn page and some benefactor helped him to learn things and helped him find Ji Yeong.
On Bon Appetit, Your Majesty Sep 30, 2025
For the time loop, i was bothered that the show didnt explain it. I need to have the logic. Not also sure if it was explained in the novel, I havent read it. But here's my take for me to have my peace of mind. Haha. If my logic is wrong, please forgive me. Just wanted to share. 😊 other explanations are welcomed.

The king's love for Cook Yeon was so deep that the moon, star or whoever listened to his wish written on the last page and granted it. Whoever granted his wish knows the past, present and future or not bound by time. Since Ji Yeong is from the future, the journal/book needs to exist first for her to read in her timeline as the first step in the king's wish (when my dear beloved reads this message out loud one day...). The book already contains all the king's desires, thoughts, food experiences, etc. which were all retained or remained unaltered by whoever granted his wish, including how the Hwanseban page was torn. Any actions or circumstances outside the journal could be altered based on their decisions thats why Ji Yeong somehow changed some things in the Joseon timeline.

It's a time loop
Definitely a time loop, but the show didnt explain it. But here's my take:

Can someone think of Gong gil T.T he was so defeated at the end like he lost purpose T.T
Yep.. but we can also see his reaction as someone who can now finally find rest from all the revenge he was plotting - mental rest from being someone with hidden agenda, physical rest from fighting, rest from always being on guard of his actions. more like, "it's finally over" 😊

I replayed this drama many times over while waiting for the release of the new episodes, so it kinda stuck with me. Haha. Somehow, i get a new and deeper understanding of some scenes

She was blamed? It was Grand Queen Dowager who somehow connected the dots from the peppers to Jin Myeong's meds, she could have warned the king

What is with the changing subtitles on Netflix? I rewatched Ep. 10 before finishing the series and noticed that…
When an episode was freshly released, only English (without CC) is available. After a few days or so, thats when English CC is available.

English is the best translation from the korean language based on context. English CC contains word for word of english dubbing, including sounds, music, name of who is currently talking when there are two or more speakers talking simultaneously - in parenthesis. This is to cater to those who could only read subtitles and not hear audio. If your default is English CC, i think it follows that once available.

I don't recall yeon ji yeong knowing about the uncle TBH because I just went to rewatch some parts, if u watch…
Ji Yeong heard the name Jesan when the royal kitchen eunuch brought fresh meat as the king and Jesan will dine together after health check, then Cook Eom explained that Jesan is his majesty's uncle. Ji Yeong stopped to think if it's Jin Myeong or Jesan who became the king after the coup.

Yes, she didnt know him from any of the history that she remembers, only when she was in the royal kitchen.

Nope did you see anything like that besides her said that he only takes the women from their families as an excuse…
There are conflicted characters doing bad things with redeeming arc in other shows, and this is used in this drama. In this case, due to his hatred, he did horrible things just for revenge. All his life, he lived for one purpose - to avenge his mom. But along the way, words of cook Yeon always get through to him right from when he met her.

Examples: the king should establish his lineage by having heirs from different 'favored' women. Cook Yeon said that this was only an excuse to womanize. After that, he released all the prisoners of chaehong, but retained Cook Yeong and Gil-Geum since he has plans to make her a royal cook.

He was always hot-tempered. but because Cook Yeon reminds him to calm himself or else, things would go down spiral, it was her who said that he should still restrain himself and he did.

He also realized that he intimidates his younger half brother, prince Jinmyeong so he initiated and ensured that the young prince should be comfortable with him. He didn't want the prince to die.

His character development was displayed all throughout. He learned to apologize to the people who cared for him during the cooking competition, learned to reward good works instead of threatening, he learned to let go of his revenge, learned to forgive his paternal grandmother and planned to reconcile with her (though didn't push through due to unfortunate events). He also admitted his past mistakes and took responsibility of the first purge by accepting his dethronement, and, he protected the start of the reign of newly enthroned king by eradicating Jesan's people regardless of his dethronement.

In the end, due to his love for Cook Yeon, he became selfless and was ready to meet his end just to save her. Just like what happened in The Beauty and the Beast.

So like, I wrote a summary of what happened from Ep 1 to 12. Haha.

You're right. He WAS horrible until he met cook yeon. This was mentioned several times in the drama.

Because of his hatred towards who did injustice to his mom, he did horrible things under the guise of chaehong. He targeted the daughters of the nobles who were involved in persecuting his mom so they could feel helpless - there's nothing they could do to save their loved ones. To hide this intent, he did the chaehong to whoever. He admitted this on Episode 1.

His drastic change because of Cook Yeon was also mentioned by Gong-gil, Grand Queen Dowager (his grandma), the Queen Dowager (his step mom), etc. It's a story of redemption, and unfortunately, he was still framed. This is fiction that took inspiration from the real king. No rape in this drama, purely revenge. This is not 100%similar to what really happened based on the Annals.
