For me I find it odd when there is not a love triangle now. But yes it is often due to the waffling of the female lead (exceptions include mischievous kiss, kotoko will always only look at irie). My first expirience with this trope was Hanadan and it is among the legends of "Miss Waffle" every version, every country.

I just finished Ikemen desu Ne and the triangle was actually a Square! that was nerve wracking. Love all your points. Doesnt mean i will stop watching them, because I love Jdrama : )

Thank you for this article!

Thanks so much to OldAnimeLady and the people who made this poll possible. but, as someone wrote before in the…
I agree not many of my faves even made the write in poll but participation is the key. And there aren't many Big name awards that feature my faves any how (oscars/grammies/etc). It is an interesting slice of our huge demographic on MDL.

If Cats disappeared was kinda bland for me, i had guessed the ending right after the meeting with the GF. My husband even commented about my lack of emotion at the ending. Its not a bad movie it just didnt move me like I wanted it to.

Thank you for the article though, very well done!

As a vampire enthusiast (I once ran a website on vampire myths found around the world) there really aren't a lot of asian equavalents ..even Most african tribes had a blood sucker type demon but Asia in general did/does not.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_folklore_by_region#Asia
https://vampiresaroundtheworld.weebly.com/asia.html

list but a few and they do not resemble their european counter parts in any way shape or form.

America has had vampire myths since we were still a british colony and it is a part of our culture brought over with our ancestors (vampire hunts happened before the salem witch trials).

This is going to effect whether or not a drama or movie is going to be popular with the culture it is produced in.

My first vampire book was "The Vampire Lestat" by Anne Rice when I was 12, Her vampire series was great. I wasn't too fond of the sparkly vampires..but by the time they came out I was in my 30s and I wasnt the target audience any how. Black dagger brotherhood and the anita blake series are awesome if they ever make it on to a tv screen some where I will watch it. Just hopethey dont screw the pooch like they did with True Blood : )

My fave vampire in film?
Stewart townsend as Lestat-Queen of the Damned
James Marsters as William the Bloody or "Spike"
Wesley Snipes as Blade

Best asian Vampire was a movie known as Twins Effect with a cameo of Jackie chan.

Thanks for writing the article as always
