We all know my love for Jdramas so I can only comment on this part. I love that you wrote this article it very well done and thought out. Bravo! I personally like that Jdramas dont care if international audiences "don't get it". If I want cafeteria food version of entertainment (bland, no spice so it can be consumed by everyone), I will go back to watching american TV.
Most people that complain dislike the humor of Japanese entertainment, but for me who hates second hand embarrassment or Slapstick it is perfect.
I have seen a few Titles from other countries but Japan will always a have my Kokoro (こころ).

Great Article...I would like to add I do not watch a lot of kdramas and Jdramas are a bit different in their portrayal of villains (backstabby bestie is thing) so I tried to look at things from a humanistic/cultural view.

At first I thought of 1 drama and 2 movies and realized you were not looking for movies, So searched up the dramas near and dear to my heart... Let me know if Japanese dramas are not applicable and I will remove them.
