So either she is silly doing that or she really liked him later as a young teen girl able of real romantic feelings and she let these feelings vanish and started to see other guys romantically. So far there is no sign that she liked him in high school. She just saw him and treated him like her bff.
ML has been liking FL since years and I understand that at some point, knowing that she was in the US and dating guys, he also tries to move on and starts dating a girl who likes him. It is not showed. Someone just mentions it. For me it would be a bad characterization if the writers tell the FL was always in love with him but she had other men in her life. The guy she dated in the US college was named Brian who barely spoke korean. Her fiancé is named Song Hyeon Jun who speaks korean very well. It's not the same guy. She probably dated before meeting her fiancé. I believe ML dated his ex as an attempt to move forward but I don't think she had crushes and dated and a fiancé and planned to marry while having the ML in her heart. Unless she is a very superficial girl. I will rant if the writers only have that to tell.

So far I like it. I like the depiction of the ML. A guy with a one sided love and he misses chances, does wrong, tries ways to escape his situation, buys a plane ticket on an impulse, talks cringey... but he has real feelings for someone who is not perfect but she is precious for him. FL is a special type. As a kid she was tough at least with him. I understand she was raised to be the best and she is not too wary of people's feelings.
Honestly there is not much happening. It is more about people and their feelings and how they manage or fail to understand and express them. Go for it if you like this kind of drama.

I hope the writers won't come up wth the idea that these two always liked each other and only missed each other because of lack of undestanding and communication. That would be poor writing for me. Granted, it is possible ML dated his ex just as an attempt to move forward but if FL chased after her senior and dated and was betrothed to her fiancé when she had a thing for ML, that would be a serious flaw in her characterization.

I dropped QOT even if I love the lead actors. I like this one better so far. QOT was kind of too much... almost grotesque at times. LND has a plain and simple story but I have more sympathy for the lead characters as I think yes there are probably common people who go throught that kind of things.
