On Crash Course in Romance Mar 1, 2023
Watched the first episode yesterday. I like the leads, particularly Jeon do Yeon. I usually steer clear of pure rom-coms, without enough villainy and/or action to sustain my interest, I just can't take them for more than a few episodes. But if there's a thriller/mystery aspect to CCiR, add that to the element of S. Korea's brutal rat race of an education system, I think I'll be on board with this drama all the way.

Title Move to Heaven Spoiler
Just finished this. Kind of a sleeper, I wasn't expecting much but found it moving. Often sad yet uplifting. I related to the feeling of going through a deceased person's effects, in my case for a sibling, in ways still a raw and unresolved emotion 10 years later. So I appreciated the sensitive treatment of it by the Move to Heaven father and son team in helping to bring closure to those who live on.

It made me think too that Extraordinary Attorney Woo owes a little something to this series, right down to the autistic character who loves sea creatures. The pacing was about perfect, 10 episodes of 45 minutes each. Would that more K-drama producers realized that you don't necessarily need to stretch the content to 16-20 one hour episodes, sometimes less is more. The rather ambiguous final scene puzzled me a bit, the door is purposely left open for a sequel ?

I was delighted to find they brought this back for a season 2. Yes, best not to think too much about the ethical aspect of vigilante justice and just enjoy this series for what it is, over the top escapist fun.

Please don't put any romance in this drama. I avoid romance dramas like the plague. I'm all for it but not when…
Yes. in general I share your sentiment. I don't mind some romance in the mix, but without some action sequences and/or evil, scheming people to make it interesting, even the most gorgeous FL can't keep me on board for the duration of a full on rom-com. And this series in particular is better without romance.

I've seen so many dramas with this trope, both Korean and Chinese, that I'm beginning to think that they're using…
LOL. You're probably right ! Chinese producers: "Hello, Republic of Korea Department of Tourism ? Yes, we'd like to book your Homicide Cliff for two days of filming next week".

Melodramatic as hell. But it's got me hooked, what the heck will happen next. Kim Hye Joo is a lovely, sensitive woman, but 6 episodes in I want to shake her, "Stop passively taking crap !"

On Our Blooming Youth Feb 12, 2023
Watched the first episode. Here we go again, driven off that well-trodden cliff by swords and arrows, only to survive the plunge. And yet another beautiful female lead disguised as a man, who wouldn't fool a sighted person for more than two seconds. I'll stick with it for a couple more episodes to see if Blooming Youth can convince me it offers anything fresh, beyond the same tired tropes.

Waiting for Viki to subs the drama is a torture. They take 2-3 days to complete the subtitle.
I'm 100% with you on that. Episode 9, aired yesterday but nothing was done. Today, I thought "Ah, now it's good" only to have the subtitles stop ~ 22:00 in. I get that there may be some Korean-Americans who appreciate these early releases. But that's got to be a small % of the viewers, most of whom need the English. Come on Viki, release these episodes when they're fully ready to go.

Thanks ! I did, and I like it.

So far this one isn't moving the needle for me. Joy is a joy and nice to see Ok Taec Yeon as other than a handsome pyscho, but the heavy handed comedy just strikes me as lame. There doesn't seem to be much sharp wit, just slapstick and the like. Come to think of it, I probably tolerate a lot in K-dramas that I wouldn't in an American series.

Thanks, I'll look for more of her work. I tried WWW but getting into the weeds about managing an internet search company bored me. I will try something else.

I agree with that, at least for Im Soo Jung, hard to believe she's over 40. I'm guessing Ji Yoon Soo is supposed to be around 30, maybe a bit less. In any case, too old to be involved with a teenage student although as you said, it's a meeting of like minds. Yoon Soo is a sensei in the truest sense of the word, although it's a bit hard to buy how clueless she is that, at the very least, the impression of favoritism towards a pet student is bound to stir up resentment. Not to mention spending so much after hours time with him. Poor judgement by a perceptive person, but then we wouldn't have a series otherwise, right ? ;-)

Regardless, the situation doesn't bother me a bit, in part because the leads are such likeable people. And the fresh beauty of Im Soo Jung would keep me on board even if the series stunk. I like that she isn't the usual fashion model slender k-drama FL, with an average petite body she looks more believable teacher than glamourous. Good casting in this series.

just dropped this, this is giving me penthouse walmart version
Sorry, at least 4 episodes in, I can't see that comparison at all. The female & male leads in Melancholia are very appealing. Whereas virtually no one that I saw in Penthouse (at least the first one) was. People in Penthouse were over the top crazy and acted so overtly, the evil and corrupt in Melancholia comport themselves in more subtle and believable ways.

It seems like the episodes don't come with subtitles already added for this drama, so the subtitle team on Viki…
Thanks to you and SecretLoves for responding. Either way it seems a bit silly to indicate an episode is ready to watch when it really isn't for non-Korean speakers. But in any case I got all of Episode 2 last night. :-)

Episode 2: anyone else having trouble with the subtitles on Viki ? When it first aired, I got 15 minutes of English and then Korean only. Yesterday, made it nearly to 30 minutes and the subtitles again stopped....Anyway, I'm liking this one early on even though I disliked math i the way through school. And the usual tropes about a corrupt school system and snooty social climbing parents. But Im Soo Jung is going to carry me through to the finish.

I can't feel any chemistry between the leads, they love each other but don't act like they do, nothing happen…
In her shoes, I wouldn't fully trust Ha Ram either if he kept growing claws and trying to tear my eyes out. ;-)

I'm on the fence about this one. The animated portion is cute but not really holding my interest. But Kim Go Eun is a delight, may continue for that reason alone. Worth checking out a few more episodes.
