Apparently, the translation was wrong. I learnt about this in the comments — So he asked her “Where you the one who came late with the reinforcements” but translation was wrong in stating “did you delay the reinforcements”. He just wanted to know if it was her or her brother who was at the Mingshi battle when his father died.
Also, her response “ Yes, I did” was also translated wrong and should have been “Yes, it was me”.
