Yup, you missed the flashback scene where CanCang’s master (the ghost king) picked her out from the abducted children because she was fierce, and he entrusted her with guarding Cangcang since childhood. Essentially, ZL always knew that he was the ghost king and that they are part of the Lingben sect.

Thirty-three minutes into episode 9, and I almost want to give CangCang a stern slap for her cluelessness! Now she’s finally learned that her Shifu was the ghost king, and that the Emperor killed him for that very reason 😒... But then she goes on about how he used her to kill a villain? Girl, seriously? This man handed you his only pill, faced his own poison, got stabbed trying to save you from falling off the roof, and even got knocked off a ship just to shield you from the impact... I’m beyond frustrated at this point.
